Frequently asked questions about the product: Beadalon 7 strand bright
Q: Hi, I am wanting to make a bracelet using the Beadalon 7. I will be using semi-precious gems which are quite weighty. Will one strand of wire be enough or would I need to double up?
Thanks.
A: One strand of wire should be enough to cope with even weighty beads, it's 7 strands of steel coated with nylon, I'm not sure what its breaking strain is but I've never seen it break. You'll probably find that the crimp beads are the parts you'll need to double up on as they're likely to be the weakest link. This is really strong stuff but we also have the 19 strand Beadalon www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Beadalon-19-strand-bright/bo4177 if you're worried about strength.
Q: How thick is this wire? Will one strand fit through GLTV0505 (5mm round clear frosted) beads? Will two strands fit through one bead?
A: It's super thin, just 0.38mm! I've just tested it and you can fit 3 strands of it through these beads easily.
Q: Is the beadalon 7 wire nice and flexible for twisting round beads as well as being suitable for crimping? I think it is great to be able to ask questions on a website like yours and I am sure I will have some more questions in the near future. I think this facility is jolly good.
A: You can loop it around beads but it won't hold the shape without crimping, Beadalon wire always wants to hang and drape around things, if you want a more sculptural wire you'll have to use a metal based wire like the ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c435
Q: Is this wire stiff ? Is it feasible to knot it ? I have multistrand steel galvanised wire 0.3 mm diameter and it is too stiff for my application (I'm a model boat engineer)
A: This wire will not knot as it is meant to slip gracefully around a neck, with no kinks. You'll need a more sculptural wire like lacemaker's wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-lacemakers-wire-0-2mm/bo4200 This isn't multi stranded so it won't have the same strength but it is suitable for intricate knotting.
Q: what type of strand would fit an old pearl necklace
A: The 7 strand would probably be fine unless the pearls have really tiny holes, in which case you might be better off with 3 strand Tigertail. We also have silk thread at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/threads-wires-misc/c437 which is a popular choice for threading pearls.
