Frequently asked questions about the product: Coloured wire
Q: Have you got 0.2 or 0.3 wire in black please?
A: I'm afraid we only have the one thickness of black wire, the only wire that we have in that size is our brass lace makers wire 0.2mm: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Lacemakers-wire-0-2mm/bo5278
Q: Hi - Can you please advise me which wire is best to use when making my own eye pins? I'm after a black wire if you have any! Thanks
A: Our eyepins are made from 0.6mm - 0.7mm thick wire, we've found this ideal for flexible pins that need to also be quite sturdy. This wire is 0.6mm thick so it might be a bit flimsy for eyepins. We have a bigger range of thicknesses in the other plated wires, we don't have any thicker black wire though.
Q: I am looking for coloured wire suitable for wrapping, and or linking, is this the correct thickness?
A: Yes, this wire is easy to bend and shape, it's ideal for wire wrapping and linking.
Q: I've seen an American tutorial video that uses 20 gauge coloured wire. You stock wire in mm's e.g. 0.4mm. Can you tell me your equivalent for 20 gauge please?
A: 0.8mm wire is approx 20 gauge, if you read the light blue text under each wire here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-wire/bo4196 it will tell you the equivalent gauge. Our coloured wire is about a 23 gauge.
Q: What gauge of wire do I need to be able to knit with it ? Many thanks.
A: I would have thought that the 0.4mm wire would be the thickest that you could comfortably knit with. The lacemakers wire would be ideal - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Lacemakers-wire-0-2mm/bo5278 or you could try 0.4mm in silver, gold, copper or brass - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c435
Q: Would this wire be a good gauge to make jump rings with?
A: This wire is a 0.6mm gauge and is quite soft so I wouldn't recommend using it for jump rings as they wouldn't be very strong. The best thing to use would be a 0.8mm gauge or above.
