Frequently asked questions about the product: Headpin SP

Q: Are these nickel free?
A: Each of the various finishes of headpins are low nickel. All of our findings that are meant to be worn in contact with the skin conform to the EU nickel directives definition of low nickel. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must release nickel at a rate of less than 0.5 micro grams to per square centimetre per week. You can find lots of useful information about Nickel (and other metals) at: www.thelaboratory.co.uk/nickel.html Nickel free is another definition, it doesn't mean an item is free of all traces of nickel it just classifies items that release nickel at a different rate.

Q: are they silver plated
A: Yes that's right, they're plated with silver.

Q: Are you considering to make longer ones?
A: 2 inch is quite standard sizing for a headpin and we don't currently have any plans to stock a larger size but I will pass your request onto our buying team.

Q: do you use eye pins or headpins to make earrings? and what else do u need to make earrings? thank you
A: Most often headpins but you can use either, depending on the type of earring you wish to make. You will need the earing part, e.g LBW: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=lbw If you want to make a small drop earring then 1 or 2 beads on a headpin will work well. You thread the beads onto the headpin, cut off the excess headpin leaving enough to bend a loop above the beads. Then you attach this to the LBW with a jump ring: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Jump-Rings/c425 The possiblities are endless though with so many different styles of earrings. You may want to have a look at our project pages for some inspiration or guidance www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/c655

Q: Hi, Do you do these come in any longer lengths?
A: We currently only stock our plated headpins in this 2 inch length.

Q: How big is the pin part of the headpin?
A: The flat head is about 2mm in diameter.

Q: I have bought your head pin and I would like to use them with a chain to attach small pearls, but I want a thin chain because it would looks much nicer , I am thinking about your trace-chain-2mm do these pins fit in this chain? thank you
A: I have tested it and our headpins fit through the trace chain easily.

Q: is there anything that i can do with the left over ends of the eye pins? some kind of twiddely wire work or something? I have lots left over and it seems a shame to throw them away if i can produce something else with them?!
A: Well depending on how long they are you could always twist another eye in the end and then you've got a mini eyepin.

Q: What gauge are the head pins? Thanks
A: Our headpins are 0.7mm, which makes them about 22 gauge, I think.
