Frequently asked questions about the collection: Loom Thread
Q: How can you stitch with this thread?
A: You can use it as you would any normal sewing thread, just thread through a needle and away you go. It's pretty thin so you can get it through a size 13 needle but a size 10 is easiest.
Q: How strong is loom thread?
A: Loom thread is really thin and strong enough for most bead weaving projects (like making something in St. Petersburg stitch out of small glass beads). It's really specifically meant for weaving work with small beads, you wouldn't want to use it with very heavy beads.
Q: I am looking for 'goat lace' just like leather thread, do you have any?
A: We don't currently stock goat lace but we have a great range of leather www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo4157 which is made from domestic cattle.
Q: I need to string real pearls normally use silk. what could you provide?
A: You could use any of these loom threads. We do have a range of silks, which you can find at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=silk+thread
Q: I use Nymo B thread for beadweaving, do you have an equivalent product?
A: We have Nymo D which is only a little bit heavier. I'm afraid the manufacturer doesn't publish the thicknesses of the threads anywhere so I don't have reliable measurements on how much thicker D is than B.
Q: I want to customise some flip flops. What sort of thread/wire would I need?
A: If you are planning to attach some beadloom work I would recommend a waterproof and abrasion resistant thread like Wildfire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Wildfire/bo4219 or an alternative would be our thin 0.5 clear nylon www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Nylon-thin/bo4165
Q: I want to make a bracelet using using a loom with seed beads and bugles but it needs to be with elastic. What do you recommend?
A: Our thinnest elastic thread would probably be the best, try our elasticity www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=eyn&x=0&y=0 which comes in black or clear, it's pretty versatile. Any knots that you make need to be pulled tight and secured with a dab of super glue or clear nail varnish to seal the knot.
Q: What is best thread for working with crystals that will fit through size 13 bead needle?
A: Either of these loom threads would be fine, I'd also recommend our Wildfire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Wildfire/bo4219?sid=5861#item5861 which is thermally bonded so if you pierce it with the needle by accident it won't fray.
Q: What type of thread would be best to use for kuhimino beading?
A: Loom thread is too fine and I would recommend a cotton or leather cord which we stock in a variety of finishes. www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-Cotton-Thong/c431 A kuhimino tutorial can be found on our bead barmy blog www.beadbarmy.com/2012/05/bead-doctor-tutorial-kumihimo-braiding-bracelet/
Q: What's a good shiny thread for making tassels? Is this thread good for it?
A: Yes, it probably would work, but it is quite thin, you could also try some of our silk threads at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=silk+thread&x=10&y=12
