Frequently asked questions about the product: Super lon D
Q: Can you please tell me what how thick Size D is? Thanks
A: Loom thread is very fine so it's tricky to give an accurate thickness I'm afraid, it seems to be listed everywhere simply as 'size D' which doesn't help! The only estimate I can find gives the size as 0.15mm.
Q: Hi - would this size of of Super lon be suitable for using strung with beads for Kumihimo Braiding?
A: This is Super lon D and it is used predominately for beadwork and as Loom thread. It is really quite fine so I don't think it would be suitable for Kumihimi Braiding. I think what you need is Superlon beading thread which has a thickness of 0.5mm or we do have a similar waxed cotton cord www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo4159 which is 1mm thick. You also might like to try using Rat Tail www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Rat-tail/bo4216 or Silk thread www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-medium/bo4217as this is very effective for Kumihimi Braiding.
Q: Hi, I want to find some thread for a porcelain pendant I have made. Its about the size of a twopence coin and pretty light. Will this be suitable, and what's the best way to clasp/join it? Thanks
A: I'd recommend a thin silk thread www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-thin/bo4209 it would be stronger and it comes in a range of attractive colours. You can knot with the silk and if you pull them tight the knots should last a long time. You can also finish off the knots with a calotte www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Calotte/bo4024 for the ends, just slip the knot into the bowl of the calotte and squash it closed with a pair of pliers. Then you should have a neat metal end to your piece that you can attach to a clasp of your choice.
Q: Is this Super lon suitable for micro macrame??
A: I would say it's too thin, I think ideally you want something that's 1-2mm thick for micro macrame, otherwise it doesn't hold its shape. Try our waxed cord, it's thin, strong and comes in lots of nice colours www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo4159
Q: Is this the best thread for making macrame bracelets, you know the touristy type ones, or the shamballa style ones, of not, what is?
A: The super lon is very fine and used for beadwork and it would be best to use something a bit thicker. We use 1mm waxed cord www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo4159 to create our shamballa bracelets as seen in our project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/shamballa-bracelet/177 and this comes in lots of bright colours.
