A Sterling Effort

It was a scorcher of a day in Brighton, with temperatures hitting over 18oC, ten degrees warmer than the average for April. The weather might have hindered some of the runners but it brought out almost 100,000 spectators to the streets of Brighton, Hove and Portslade to cheer them on. Over 8000 people took part on the day, including runners dressed as Pacman chasing some ghosts, a rhinoceros and a gang of soldiers in full army gear and backpacks. The winner, Kenyan Philemon Kiprop-boit, finished in an amazing 2 hours 16 minutes, that’s an average speed of just over 12 miles per hour!
First time marathon runner Jake Kennedy very kindly chose to — or rather BU’s creative assistant, and Jake’s wife, Keri twisted his arm! — help us towards our £10,000 target for the RNLI. He finished the Brighton Marathon on the 10th April in a fantastic 4 hours and 58 minutes and came in at 5681st place.
Jake raised £300 to add to the Beads Unlimited RNLI fund. When asked whether he’d be running it again next year, the short answer was "no!" http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/beadsunlimited25
