A: No, they are quite round and rigid, they are about 1mm wide, so you may have problems using them with tiny beads.

A: No, at approximately 1.5mm the links are slightly larger than those on our assembled chain.

Q: Are the xilion beads a different shape to the bicone or are they one and the same?
A: Xilion beads are still bicone shape they just have extra facets.

Q: Are the xilion beads also known as ab beads (really sparkling)
A: They have a moon finish (which is sort of irridescent) and as the facets on them catch the light they sparkle.

Q: Are there any tools with the starter pack, if not which tools are most needed?

A: It depends how many times you want to loop the necklace over on itself. You would perhaps need to coil a full length necklace about 3 times. In the larger bags you might be able to lay the necklace in without coiling it too much.

A: All our bone and horn beads are Indian and absolutely nothing goes to waste there. Our buyers have visited a number of bone workshops where various domestic cattle and goat are used. Nothing endangered is required or allowed and nothing is reared with the sole intention of use as a bone product. They are hand carved and dyed.

Q: Are these cubes and do they have holes for threading onto wire?
A: No, these are flat squares with a 1mm hole running through them.

Q: Are these hearts really made out of iron?
A: Yes, iron is the base metal of these pendants.

A: Our long ballwires are not 'nickel free', they do contain some nickel but they conform to the EU Nickel Directives' definition of 'low nickel'. Q: Are these side drilled? Do they have a flat or rounded profile when seen from the top? Thanks
A: They have side holes drilled drilled through the top. When seen from the top they look pointy, they are flattish daggers rather than rounded drops.

Q: Are these suitable to use for hair braiding, is the hole big enough to get a small amount of plaited hair through?
A: The holes in these beads are approx 3.5mm, I would have thought they would be suitable for very thin plaits.

A: Yes, that's right, they are the same beads, it's much cheaper to buy them in our regular wholesale range.

A: You can use whichever wires you'd like with Swarovski beads. The great thing about these plastic coated wires are the funky colours they come in, so if you want the colour to be part of your design then these would be perfect.

A: All of our silver plated headpins and eyepins are 2" long. We have either 1" or 2" headpins in sterling silver however, and 1.25" eyepins.

Q: Can I solder these brooch bars onto silver?
A: I'm afraid not, as they're made of base metal they'd melt long before the silver!

Q: Can I thread these on a 1mm diameter leather thong?
A: No, I'm afraid the holes vary from 0.8-1mm wide (they are handmade), so you would need a thinner cord.

Q: Can I thread these onto a leather thong 1.5mm diameter?
A: No, I'm afraid the holes are only 0.9mm wide, so you would need a thinner cord.

Q: Can I thread this onto a silver chain?
A: You may be able to incorporate a millefiori star onto a silver chain somehow. The holes are much too small (1mm) to be able to thread one onto chain. The holes run side to side from the base of one of the stars' spikes, so you could thread an eyepin (http://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Eyepin-SP/bo771) through the hole, trim it and twist the other end into a loop, once you've got a star with a metal loop on each side you can cut the chain and hook the loops on either end of the chain, basically inserting the star into the chain. a similar method of inserting beaded eyepins into chain can be seen in a project at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/retro-style-necklace-bracelet/61 Of course this is all dependant on the size of the links in the chain you're using.

Q: Can I use these crimping pliers for (leather crimps). They are made of metal and look like a spring about 4mm.
A: No, these pliers are specifically for the tiny crimps that you can find at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789 The best pliers to use with the round leather crimps would be some half round nosed ones like: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Craft-pliers/bo1055 You'll need to just squash the last rung of the crimp really tight so it grips around your thread.

Q: Can these be used on necklaces done on wire?
A: Yes, if you thread the wire through the cage from side to side it shouldn't slip through, they work really well with a bead placed within the cage.

Q: Can these pendants be made into necklaces?
A: Yes, the top swirls around into a loop that is fused to the back of the pendant, you can thread through this to create a pendant necklace.

A: Well, these beads are all handmade and each bag should contain a good mix of tiny beads, medium beads and massive ones. It's really hard to tell but it's rare to get many beads that are less than 5mm.

Q: can you give me an idea of the size of the beads and holes?
A: The contents of these mixes can vary tremendously. Sizes of our current batch range between approximately 4mm - 25mm, with holes of between 0.5mm - 2mm.

I'm afraid we don't really have any standard glass beads, some are handmade and vary, even the machine made ones vary (the bigger the bead the larger the hole) it really depends on the specific bead.

A: Both the 4mm and 6mm STS jump rings are 0.6mm thick which is, I think, 24/25 gauge.

A: It's perfectly safe to continue using your oven as usual - when you place the Fimo on a baking tray you may want to cover the tray with a sheet of foil to protect it, or have a separate tray for use with your Fimo.

A: No, it's not a specialist crimping tool, which wraps the crimps back over on themselves neatly but you can use the flat part to squash the crimps down.

Q: Does this screw on? If not how is it fixed to the pin? Thanks.
A: You slide the cup onto the pin, it sits on the pin and creates a stop to the beads you add to the pin. Alternatively you could use a very small spacer bead to sit on your pin and prevent your pin head from slipping through your bead.

A: Crimp covers are used after you have crimped the wire, to hide the crimp. The split down the side is so that you can slide the crimped part of the wire into them and then squeeze closed to make it look like a silver bead.

A: The moon beads have a king of iridescent silvery finish which will catch the light on some of the facets, they have a sort of sparkle. The fire polished beads are a flat colour, so just transparent glass.

A: All the pieces in the offcuts bags are at least 1m long, some bags will contain 2m or 3m lengths as well. You tend to get about 4 different colours in each bag, so I reckon there would be enough to make 6 necklaces. As to leather or cotton, it's really a personal preference. Cotton is stronger and comes in brighter colours but leather feels lovely, it really depends on what look you are going for.

A: 0.6 or 0.8mm wire will be your best bet, depending on the finish required. Gently hammering wire shapes once made will help to retain their form.

A: The memory wire would work just fine as it holds its shape - you can adjust it too, with pliers, if the loops are too big, and add rocailles to pad it out.

A: Probably this light chain is the best as it's quite strong and not too bulky, but you can still get headpins or jump rings through the links.

A: They are about 0.8mm but can vary slightly in thickness depending on the batch.

Q: What wire is the thinnest?
A: The 3 strand is the thinnest of our beading wires, it means there are three strands of steel wire coated with nylon. Then we sell 7 strand and 19 strand (Beadalon), which are a bit tougher as they have more steel strands.

Q: What wood are the beads made of?
A: They are made from common European Maple and Beech wood and conform to the necessary legislation.

Q: What would we do with this?

A: Well, they are reasonably strong but you wouldn't want a lot of heavy glass or metal beads strung with it. I haven't ever tested the weight any of the magnetic clasps will carry. I wouldn't suggest them for anything heavier than a floating necklace with beading wire, or with some lightweight beads.

Q: What's the diameter of the hole in the lustred 10x8mm beads and can any of the leather thongs or waxed cords be used with these, please? Alternatively, please could you suggest beads that could be used with the leather and/or waxed cords that you offer. Thanks!
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 1.5mm wide, but can vary because they are handmade. A: These are two different types of cutters in the same range which have the same price point. You can buy each in wholesale quantities of 10 but they can't be mixed together.

Q: When using crimp beads 1.5mm x 2mm what size of crimp cover should I buy?
A: All of our crimp covers will cover the crimps that we stock, so it's up to you as to how you want the finished product to look.

Q: When you say 4 strands, do you mean 4 times coiled? Can you clarify, and would this be the best product for bracelets with four winds of beads? - or would the heavier quality be better please.
A: Yes, you're quite right they aren't 4 strands at all but one strand of wire that coils around 4 times on itself. The heavier weight wire only really makes a difference if you are using heavy glass beads, for anything else it's not really necessary, just personal preference.

Q: Which beads do you recommend using as I guess you cannot remove the ends? Thankyou.

Q: Which tiger tail is best for keeping shape?
A: None of the tigertail will keep its shape, it will drape and hang around your neck (or wrist, or ankle), it shouldn't kink. If you want something that will hold the shape you bend it into then you would have to use memory wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/memory-wire/c65

Q: Which wire is best for hanging heavy pendants on which will keep shape but have a bit of flexibility?
A: The thicker the wire the better it will hold its shape. The 1.2mm and 1.5mm wire needs to be bent with pliers and should hold its shape come what may, it's quite sculptural. The problem with the silver plated wire is that because it is best used for a sculptural creation even the 0.8mm and the 1mm will kink and lose its shape over time. Q: Which wire is best for making jump rings please?
A: I'd recommend 1mm silver plated wire, or perhaps 0.8mm for smaller diameter rings. You want something fairly thick to ensure that it holds its shape.

Q: Why are your 6mm metallic coil beads no longer available to buy by one pack but is available to buy in packs of ten.
A: I'm afraid we've discontinued the 6mm coils from our regular range but they're still available to buy packeted for re-sale through our retailers' collection.

Q: Why do you have a smaller range of colours in the next size up? Some projects I would like to do use one colour in both 4mm and 6mm but I am limited by your range. Thanks.
A: The Swarovski beads are a brand new range for us and we were limited in the colours we could originally get hold of, hopefully as time goes on and the beads prove to be popular we can increase our colour range. Q: Will a multi-mix contain a set number in every colour available, or a random mix?
A: It's a random mix of all the colours available at the time, we try to rotate the colours so that you get any even mix of them all.

Q: Will these cut headpins? I need lots for classes but really need a cheaper alternative to wire cutters.

A: The coloured elastic is perfect for use with pony beads. It's very popular for children's craft projects as it's easy to knot and thread and there's no need for fiddly clasps and findings.

Q: Will you be offering just the cream pearl mix again?
A: I'm afraid that the cream pearl mix was a special one-off item but we are just about to start a new range of glass pearls with sizes from 4mm to 16mm in various colours. Hopefully these will arrive in a month or so.

A: There is indeed, the velvet is black.

Q: Would I be able to thread these beads onto a 1mm cotton cord?
A: The holes in these beads are about 0.8mm wide, so I'm afraid you'd have to use a thinner cord.

Q: Would it be possible to thread this on to one of your Kidney Wires or Long Ball Wire/Fish Hooks?
A: Yes, but since the hole runs through the middle of the bead you would need to put a headpin through the hole, trim it to a centimetre above the top of the bead and twist the end into a loop. Then you could attach this loop to a long ball wire or kidney wire. Q: would this box be ok for rings
A: Perfect, there's an inlay with a split to hold a ring in place.

Q: Would you recommend a double thickness of the thin elastic or single thickness of the thick?
A: It depends how heavy the beads are that you're using. I think a single thickness of the thick would be suitable for most jobs and perhaps stronger than double threading with the thin.
