Frequently asked questions about the collection: bone beads
Q: Are these 1/2 inch tube bone beads suitable for earrings or are they too bulky ?
A: It depends on what you're planning on doing with them or putting with them, but on their own they aren't too heavy for earrings.
Q: Do you have any bone or horn beads/toggles with large holes?
A: Even our biggest bone beads only have 2.5-3mm holes, by large holes I presume you mean something like 5mm. The bone beads are all handmade and so the hole size can vary quite considerably from batch to batch but I'd say most of the bigger sizes of beads have holes around 2.5mm.
Q: Please can you tell me roughly how heavy the Two tone 1/2" tube (36R) bone beads are, and also the size of the hole.
Many thanks, Kelly
A: Well they all vary slightly but I can tell you that they weigh approximately 0.6g each and the hole is around 1.75mm wide.
Q: What animal does the bone come from?
A: All our bone beads are Indian and absolutely nothing there goes to waste. Our buyers have visited a number of bone workshops where various domestic cattle and goats which have passed their useful life are used. Nothing endangered is required or allowed and nothing is reared with the sole intention of use as a bone product.
