Glass beads have been produced for decoration, commerce and ritual for centuries. We supply a mosaic of bright and beautiful beads and pendants from around the world. If your preference is for individuality try hand made Indian beads, no two are ever the same. For machine made perfection high quality Czech glass offers consistency at a very affordable price. Inspired feature beads and pendants are currently flooding out of China and the Far East.

These tiny beads are individually hand made in small units around the holy city of Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges. They are made using kerosene lamps powered by a foot pump. We do our best to ensure high quality and consistency but we rather like the idea that each item is a bit different from the last.

Millefiori is the Italian for a thousand flowers. Millefori cane originates from the Venetian island of Murano and is produced by a very intricate process resulting in something like a very elaborate stick of rock. It is sliced into thin chips which are then pressed onto a background of molten glass. The results are these delightfully delicate pieces.

Pressed glass beads from the Czech Republic. By perfecting quality and consistency glass products have kept generations of Bohemians in work. In stark contrast to Indian production methods vast factories employ up to 1,000 workers. Ten or more substantial glass rods are stamped at high temperatures by heavyweight presses before tumbling to remove any rough edges. This is followed by polishing in very precisely heated ovens. Nothing is left to chance.

Frequently asked questions about the collection: glass beads & pendants

Q: do you ever do scarecrow charms
A: We've never had a scarecrow charm yet and this is the first time I've been asked for one. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility as we are adding to our range of charms all the time but I know we don't have any immediate plans to have scarecrow charms.

Q: Do you have any glass beads around 8mm diameter with holes of 1.5 - 2mm? Many thanks
A: I'm afraid that none of our glass beads have holes larger than 1mm, they are all relatively tiny, except for our pandora style beads which have 5mm wide silver plated metal lined holes www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Pandora-style-bubble-bead/bo5111

Q: do you have necklaces already made up in glass beads or semi precious stones

Q: One of my knitting patterns uses Czech glass beads and size 6 and 8 seed beads. Please give your expert advise.
A: We do sell Size 8 Czech seed beads www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/size-8-0-rocailles-Czech/c400 they measure 1.5mm x 2mm. Unfortunately we don't sell Size 6 seed beads but these are 4mm so you could opt for 4mm round Czech glass beads instead www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/size-8-0-rocailles-Czech/c400 and they also come in larger sizes of 6mm, 8mm and 10mm if you need something larger.

Q: You used to stock frosted glass flower shapes- how do I get hold of these now? ( I loved them!)
A: I'm sorry we discontinued the kiln glass range quite a long time ago and we've just sold through all the last dribs and drabs. The only shop I could find online that sells it is one of our customers so they may have bought it from us. Try Googling 'Indian kiln glass beads'.
