Frequently asked questions about the collection: nylon
Q: Hi - I have a friend who's a jeweller. He's asked me to undertake threading some freshwater pearls for him, with a knot between each pearl. What do I need? I gather I need nylon and a needle, but could you recommend which to me? Also, do you have any guidance to offer? I've made a number of necklaces and earrings but none with nylon and knots!
Many thanks for your help,
barbara
A: To be honest for pearls I'd always recommend silk as it's so strong and easy to knot and pearls are really soft so nylon can be a bit harsh. We have a range of silks www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=silk which would do the job admirably and you wouldn't need a needle as the packs come with a needle already attached!
Q: I am looking for a suitable thread or wire as i make necklaces with just 12 or 20 8mm and 10mm glass beads, ive tried Tiger Tail but it doesnt sit right and bends could you advise me please, the necklaces are 18 and 20 inches long. Thank you
A: Do you want a rigid thread that you can crimp to hold the beads in place, something that you can use to make a floating necklace? Or are you just looking for a thin, sturdy thread? If you have any pictures of the kind of necklaces you want to make you could always attach them to an e-mail for me, mailbox@beadsunlimited.co.uk
Q: I would like to make a pendulum / bracelet with 8mm round semi-preciousbeads. Would Nylon be suitable and what size .. or what would you recommend. So far i've used No. 7 strand beading wire but not sure if its strong enough to hold the beads over t ime. It folds nicely around the wrist when used as the bracelet.
A: Beading wire would certainly be a better option, nylon can stretch and break over time. Beading wires are generally made of steel with a nylon coating so much stronger but still very flexible.
Q: Is any of your beading thread like Fireline
A: We don't have any that is braided and waxed like Fireline except for our thin and thick waxed thread www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-thin/bo4214 and www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-thick/bo4215 this is the same kind of plastic thread but it can be used in the same beading situations.
Q: Is your nylon thin (NYN) suitable for using with number 11 seed beads.
A: Yes definitely, it's really thin so no problem getting it through the beads and because nylon is quite stiff it is really easy to thread.
