Frequently asked questions about the collection:
Q: £1.25 for 2 items - does that mean 2 pairs, or 1 pair of fishhooks?
A: That's £1.25 for a pair of fish hooks.
Q: A friend has aked me to reset a stone in some earrings she bought. Which glue should I use for this please?
A: I'd suggest the epoxy glue for stickingdifferent types of material together. The epoxy glue comes in two parts so you need to mix it together, all you need is a matchstick and some patience.
Q: Approximately how many finished items could I expect to get from one of these party packs? E.g. Bracelets.
Cheers
A: The total number of beads in the pack would form a length of approximately 5.6 metres. So if you made bracelets about 17cm long, you could make about 32 with the beads provided.
Q: Are all your plated wires on copper? Is there any other on other metals?
A: The brass wire is solid brass all the way through, but the other plated wires are all copper based (and they're all certified nickel free, too!).
Q: Are only black available in the 10MM?
A: Yes, we only stock the black in 10mm.
Q: Are the bead holes large enough to thread with very narrow ribbon? Thank you
A: The holes are 1mm wide, so you might have trouble fitting even a very narrow ribbon through.
Q: Are the beads completely smooth or do they have a seam? Thank you.
A: These spacers are completely smooth, seamless! We do have some Indian beads with seams at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Pressed-5mm/bo3129
Q: Are the crystals real peridot etc or does that just relate to the colour?
A: No, the description 'peridot' etc just refers to the Swarovski colour code, they are all crystal beads.
Q: Are the holes big enough in these to thread onto fabric necklaces to make them?
A: It depends quite what you are threading them onto - the holes are quite large (about 3.5mm)
Q: Are the holes in these suitable for 1mm elastic or thong to go through?
A: Yes, they should fit just fine!
Q: Are the Japanese opaque bugles 100% turquoise?
A: All our rocailles are made from glass, turquoise is the colour.
Q: Are the kidney wires made from sterling silver only?
A: No, we do have some silver plated ones at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Kidney-wire-SP/bo1542 and some gold plated ones at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Kidney-wire-GP/bo1541
Q: Are the links on this chain the same size as the assembled chain that you sell?
A: No, at approximately 1.5mm the links are slightly larger than those on our assembled chain.
Q: Are the millefiori stars available as beads rather than pendants?
A: We do have millefiori stars available as beads, at 12mm they are a little smaller than the pendants but they can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Millefiori-star-12mm/bo1096
Q: Are the xilion beads a different shape to the bicone or are they one and the same?
A: Xilion beads are still bicone shape they just have extra facets.
Q: Are the xilion beads also known as ab beads (really sparkling)
A: Xilion is the cut of the bead whereas AB stands for aurora borealis, referring to the finish. They have a moon finish (which is sort of iridescent) and as the facets on them catch the light they sparkle.
Q: Are there any tools with the starter pack, if not which tools are most needed?
A: The starter pack is intended for retailers aiming to add a bead range to their shop or business: 'Our starter pack includes a wide range of some of our best selling beads and pendants, findings and cotton thong. Complete with instruction leaflets, bead collecting baskets and merchandising materials. A planogram is standard to make re-ordering easy.' As such we don't include any tools but we do have a wide range of them that you can buy in wholesale quantities if you're looking to sell them on, the most popular are our craft pliers which come in three useful types www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Craft-pliers/bo1055.
If you're looking for something to get you started with jewellery making for yourself rather than bead retailing to others take a look at our beginners' packs www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Beginners-pack/bo1522 all the contents are listed (it has a set of three craft pliers).
Q: Are these also called bead caps
A: Yes, they are used for the same thing, we also have various decorated bead caps at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=bead+cap
Q: Are these bags a good size for necklaces or do I need to buy the bigger version?
A: It depends how many times you want to loop the necklace over on itself. You would perhaps need to coil a full length necklace about 3 times. In the larger bags you might be able to lay the necklace in without coiling it too much.
Q: Are these bails ok to use with your swarovski heart beads? Will they fit in the holes securely? If not do you have any you can recommend please?
A: Yes, they fit just fine!
Q: Are these beads a fair trade item, who makes them, what animal are they made from and where do they come from? Thanks very much Sam
A: All our bone and horn beads are Indian and absolutely nothing goes to waste there. Our buyers have visited a number of bone workshops where various domestic cattle and goat are used. Nothing endangered is required or allowed and nothing is reared with the sole intention of use as a bone product. They are hand carved and dyed.
Q: Are these beads drilled from the side or top?
A: The hole in these beads is drilled from top to bottom.
Q: Are these beads flat backed and preferably with no holes?
A: I'm afraid not, the surface is slightly curved and all of our beads have holes through them.
Q: Are these beads flat or round?
A: They are round, made of metal which is pressed together but still spherical.
Q: Are these cubes and do they have holes for threading onto wire?
A: No, these are flat squares with a 1mm hole running through them.
Q: Are these eyepins 'low nickel' or standard?
A: Our jewellery findings conform to the EU nickel directives definition of low nickel. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must release nickel at a rate of less than 0.2 µg/cm2/week
You can find lots of details about the EU nickel regulations at: www.thelaboratory.co.uk/nickel.html and we produce our own nickel information leaflet that you can request if you'd like to read it.
Q: Are these flat by any chance?
A: Nope, they're rounded.
Q: Are these hearts really made out of iron?
A: Yes, iron is the base metal of these pendants.
Q: are these nickel free?
A: Our long ballwires are not 'nickel free', they do contain some nickel but they conform to the EU Nickel Directives' definition of 'low nickel'. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must not release nickel at a rate exceeding 0.5 micro grams to per square centimetre per week for a period of at least two years of normal use.
Q: Are these Pandora-style beads? Do they fit on pandora-style bracelets etc?
A: I'm afraid not, the hole in these beads isn't large enough to fit onto a Pandora style bracelet. All of our Pandora style beads can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=pandora
Q: Are these pendants too heavy to hang on waxed cotton thread (1mm thick) or should it be fine?
A: No they aren't actually particularly heavy, 1mm cord should be adequate.
Q: Are these rings adjustable to finger size?
A: Yes, the back of the ring is open so you can pull it apart to make it larger or push it together to make it smaller.
Q: Are these self assembly or already made?
A: They're just as seen in the picture, a long string with the beads already threaded.
Q: Are these side drilled? Do they have a flat or rounded profile when seen from the top? Thanks
A: They have side holes drilled through the top. When seen from the top they look pointy, they are flattish daggers rather than rounded drops.
Q: Are these strong enough to take a full beaded necklace?
A: Well that depends on what kind of beads you're thinking of using. These clasps are surprisingly strong and definitely capable of coping with most necklaces but I wouldn't recommend them for a very heavy glass necklace.
Q: Are these suitable to put the sugared almonds in for wedding favors?
A: I would have thought so, but I would recommend putting the almonds inside some sort of cellophane or protective wrapping just in case - the bags aren't really designed for food use so they haven't been tested in that way.
Q: Are these suitable to use for hair braiding, is the hole big enough to get a small amount of plaited hair through?
A: The holes in these beads are approx 3.5mm, I would have thought they would be suitable for very thin plaits.
Q: Are these suitable to use with 'tiger tail' or Acculon 7 strand wire? Would you recommend them to use with just one strand of tiger tail or multi - if so, how many strands will they cope with?
A: Yes, you can use these crimps with any of our tigertail or beadalon wires. You can only fit one strand through. For multi stranded wire jewellery you could try our wire guardians www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Wire-guardian/bo996
Q: Are these the beads you can use for putting on a headpin before a bead?
A: You can use them for that purpose, yes. They're also used as spacer beads. You can use plain cups on the base of a headpin too, they can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Plain-cup-small/bo767
Q: Are these the only colours?
A: Yes, unfortunately the rocaille boxes have been discontinued and we only have remaining the colours that you see listed.
Q: Are these the same as the B070 AB transparent beads from your range in Hobbycraft?
A: Yes, that's right, they are the same beads, it's much cheaper to buy them in our regular wholesale range.
Q: Are these the same as the crimps?
A: No, they aren't squashable in the same way as the crimps, they are merely meant to be used as spacer beads.
Q: Are these triangles suitable to use with the swarovski heart beads if they were to be directly attached to a fine chain? Is there much space between the top of the bead and the top of the triangle?
A: I've just tested it and yes they fit perfectly! There is plenty of space between the bead and the triangle for a chain or cord.
Q: Are these wires good for Swarovski beads or is it better to use clear wires? My weak point is wires. Thank you, Yevdokia
A: You can use whichever wires you'd like with Swarovski beads. The great thing about these plastic coated wires are the funky colours they come in, so if you want the colour to be part of your design then these would be perfect.
Q: Are theses clasps low nickel?
A: They conform to the EU Nickel Directives' definition of 'low nickel'. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must not release nickel at a rate exceeding 0.5 micro grams to per square centimetre per week for a period of at least two years of normal use.
Q: Are they closed or open jump rings? Thank you
A: All our jump rings are open (I think closed refers to fused rings), you can open and close ours again with pliers. For a ring that's closed you could try our split rings www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Split-ring-5mm/bo809 which work in the same way as the ring on a key ring.
Q: Are they completely round or dome flat on one side?
A: They are completely round beads.
Q: Are they free from chips and cracks?
A: The beads in this mix should be whole and un-damaged, they are second quality as regards colour and shape. If you ever order anything that arrived cracked or chipped please contact us and you can return it for an exchange, credit or refund.
Q: Are this beads suitable for hair braiding?
A: The holes are approximately 2.5mm so they might fit on fine braids.
Q: Are those crimps suitable for use with Tiger Tail?
A: No, they are intended for use with ribbon, or similar wide thread, for Tiger Tail you need the tiny crimps at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: Are your head pins and eye pins all the same length or do they come in 25mm and 50mm length? Already added you to my favourites list as I love the range you stock. Regards, Tanya
A: All of our silver plated headpins and eyepins are 2" long. We have either 1" or 2" headpins in sterling silver however, and 1.25" eyepins.
Q: Are your pony beads non toxic? Thanks x
A: Yes, they are.
Q: Are your prices for sterling silver earwires 95p per PAIR or per ear wire
Sorry I'm just a little confused
A: No worries, all our sterling silver earring pieces come per pair.
Q: Are your varnished wooden beads colourfast and safe to wear next to the skin?
A: Indeed they are.
Q: Can I buy 10 of one colour? looking for 10 of the raspberry colour and 10 of the turquoise colour.
A: I'm afraid we only offer the bead mats as a random mix of colours, even if you buy 10, as the colours always come in slightly different so we're never quite sure what colours we will have.
Q: Can I buy 5 packs of different colours for £19.95 or do they have to be the same colour?
A: Yes, you can mix the colours you'd like, if you go to the bottom of the page and click on buy a custom mix then you can choose whichever colours you'd like.
Q: can I buy a mix of aluminium ravers
A: I'm afraid the remaining sale ravers aren't available as a mix anymore
Q: Can I just buy the butterfly design on its own?
A: No, I'm afraid that the beads just come as a random mix.
Q: Can I order just pink as I am doing pink crystals angels for breast cancer and do you know where I could get key rings with some sort of pink in them?
A: Yes, you can buy just pink clips, when you click on 'more details' you should be able to see and choose from the full colour range available. I'm afraid we don't have any coloured key rings at all, you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: Can I please have the size of the bead hole- are they larger enough for thong to pass through doubled up?
A: The holes are quite small, just under 1mm, so you wouldn't be able to fit thong through at all.
Q: Can I solder these brooch bars onto silver?
A: I'm afraid not, as they're made of base metal they'd melt long before the silver!
Q: Can I thread these on a 1mm diameter leather thong?
A: No, I'm afraid the holes vary from 0.8-1mm wide (they are handmade), so you would need a thinner cord.
Q: Can I thread these onto a leather thong 1.5mm diameter?
A: No, I'm afraid the holes are only 0.9mm wide, so you would need a thinner cord.
Q: Can I thread this onto a silver chain?
A: You may be able to incorporate a millefiori star onto a silver chain somehow. The holes are much too small (1mm) to be able to thread one onto chain. The holes run side to side from the base of one of the stars' spikes, so you could thread an eyepin (http://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Eyepin-SP/bo771) through the hole, trim it and twist the other end into a loop, once you've got a star with a metal loop on each side you can cut the chain and hook the loops on either end of the chain, basically inserting the star into the chain. a similar method of inserting beaded eyepins into chain can be seen in a project at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/retro-style-necklace-bracelet/61 Of course this is all dependant on the size of the links in the chain you're using.
Q: Can I use these crimping pliers for (leather crimps). They are made of metal and look like a spring about 4mm.
A: No, these pliers are specifically for the tiny crimps that you can find at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789 The best pliers to use with the round leather crimps would be some half round nosed ones like: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Craft-pliers/bo1055 You'll need to just squash the last rung of the crimp really tight so it grips around your thread.
Q: Can I use this needle to thread organza ribbon into a wood bead? I'm trying to make the project on your site with the pink ribbon and violet and pink wood beads but cannot get the ribbon through the bead! Thanks for your help.
A: No, I'm afraid the organza ribbon is quite wide and won't fit through any of our beading needles. You could try pushing it through the bead with the flat top of a head pin, I find that makes it easier!
Q: Can l paint onto the pearl shell?
If so what is the best product to use?
A: I don't see why not, I would expect that either acrylic or enamel paint would be the most effective and least likely to peel off. As nobody here has tried it themselves you'd need to experiment to see what works best!
Q: Can these be used on necklaces done on wire?
A: Yes, if you thread the wire through the cage from side to side it shouldn't slip through, they work really well with a bead placed within the cage.
Q: Can these be used with headpins? Thanks.
A: The holes through the rubber beads are quite large so the headpin would slide right through unless you put another bead or a cap on the end of the headpin.
Q: Can these beads be threaded onto 1mm cord?
A: The holes are approximately 1.5mm, so yes, 1mm cord should be fine.
Q: Can these pendants be made into necklaces?
A: Yes, the top swirls around into a loop that is fused to the back of the pendant, you can thread through this to create a pendant necklace.
Q: Can this be used instead of the soft flex for knotting. If not what could I use? Do you stock any coloured wires that could be used like this?
A: I'm afraid not, the only wire suitable for knotting that we stock is the Soft Flex, it’s specially made for that purpose. If it doesn't need to be wire you could try silk threads, they come in three different thicknesses and several colours - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=silk
Q: Can this thread be dyed if not do you have a thread of the same thickness that can be dyed?
A: We haven't tried it so I can't say for sure, but I would have thought that the coating on the thread would make it hard for the dye to take.
Q: Can you buy in 5g bags please?
A: Sorry, we only offer the Czech made version of these in 5g packs, you can find them at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/opaque-11-0-rocailles-Czech/c264
Q: Can you deliver to Serbia?
A: We are happy to deliver worldwide! Your credit card company will convert at the prevailing rate of exchange. We cannot accept cheques or money orders drawn on foreign banks. Postage is charged at cost, but we can let you know what it will be before we take payment on request.
Q: Can you get these ceramic glazed flowers in a yellow colour?
A: Not at the moment I'm afraid, you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Can you get this bead in different colours?
A: I'm afraid it only comes in the shade you see here.
Q: Can you give an idea of the range of sizes included in the mix? I'm trying to avoid being left with excess amounts of tiny beads (i.e. less than 4mm). Thanks
A: Well, these beads are all handmade and each bag should contain a good mix of tiny beads, medium beads and massive ones. It's really hard to tell but it's rare to get many beads that are less than 5mm.
Q: can you give me an idea of the size of the beads and holes?
A: The contents of these mixes can vary tremendously. Sizes of our current batch range between approximately 4mm - 25mm, with holes of between 0.5mm - 2mm.
Q: Can you give me the full length of this clip including the ring at the bottom?
A: The clip is 22mm long including the ring at the bottom.
Q: Can you just add these magnetic clasps to the end of a necklace as an add on?
A: They have little loops on so you can just tie, or thread, or crimp your necklace to them. They're ace and surprisingly strong, especially good for people with low motility skills who don't want to be endlessly fiddling around with clasps.
Q: Can you knit with the plastic coated beading wire, if so could you please let me know what gauge it would relate to. Thank you. Jan MacLeod
A: No, I'm afraid it doesn't hold its shape for knitting but you should try our coloured wires www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-wire/bo1405 if you want to knit with some funky colours.
Q: Can you knit with this wire?
A: The most suitable wire we have for knitting would be our lacemaker's wire which can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=lacemaker or you could probably get away with 0.4mm silver, gold, copper or brass plated wire which can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71 or at a push our 0.6mm coloured wire if you want to knit with some fun colours - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-wire/bo1405
Q: Can you let me know if this is single or multi strand, thank you
A: The plastic coated wire has 7 strands.
Q: Can you please advise me. I want to try and make knitted bead purses and don't know which gauge of silk thread I would need, the book I have only states silk thread.
A: Each thickness would work the same way, they're all equally flexible, so it really just depends what size the holes are in the beads you are using and whether the cord will fit through.
Q: Can you please advise what thickness of waxed thong or leather thong I would need for these pendants. Also which thickness would be suitable for standard glass beads. Thank you very much.
A: You could use either thin or thick leather or cotton thong. Thin if you want to get two strands through the holes. I'm afraid we don't really have any standard glass beads, some are handmade and vary, even the machine made ones vary (the bigger the bead the larger the hole) it really depends on the specific bead.
Q: Can you please let me know if the mixes are despatched in a clearbox packaging as I want to give it as a present?
Thanks.
Liza
A: The mixes come in plastic packets, often with the manufacturer's name printed on them. You may need to repackage them if this isn't suitable.
Q: Can you please tell me if the hobby pliers have a spring back action..and what is the difference between hobby and professional pliers thank you.
A: Both types do have spring back action, the hobby pliers are ideal for beginners or for messing about with but the professional ones are much more durable and suitable for every day use.
Q: Can you please tell me the gauge of the wire for the STS 4mm and 6mm jump rings? Many thanks
A: Both the 4mm and 6mm STS jump rings are 0.6mm thick which is, I think, 24/25 gauge.
Q: Can you please tell me the hole size for these beads?
A: The holes in these beads are about 0.5mm wide.
Q: Can you please tell me the hole size for these beads?
A: The holes in these beads are about 2.2mm wide.
Q: Can you please tell me the hole size for these beads?
A: The holes in these beads are about 1mm wide.
Q: Can you please tell me the size of the hole drilled through the bead.
A: The holes are 4mm wide.
Q: can you please tell me what size hole there is in your 10mm roundish beads 31j and your drum shape thank you
A: The holes in both of these beads are 2mm wide.
Q: can you please tell me what size the hole is in this bead?
A: The holes are a fraction under 2mm in diameter
Q: Can you please tell me what the diameter of the hole is please? Many thanks, Ann
A: The holes are roughly 1.5mm - 2mm wide, they are a handmade product so each one varies.
Q: Can you suggest something, along the lines of the flat leather crimp, to link the 1 mm leather thong to necklace clasps etc? I've tried using LFSP 3x9mm but with no joy, seems to need something smaller
A: I'm afraid we don't currently stock a smaller leather crimp, though it is possible that we may in future. In the mean time, you could try to knot the leather or double it back on itself to give the crimp more to hang on to.
Q: Can you supply the Swarovski bicones in the large packs of 1440? If so how much are they.
A: I'm afraid that we will only be selling the 4mm xilions in 50s but if you buy 5 or more wholesale packets of 50 you will get a 10% wholesale discount.
Q: can you supply them in matching pairs as a wholesale pack for earring making?
A: If you're buying a mix you would have to specify that you want pairs, our random mixes are just that but yes, it's not a problem.
Q: Can you tell me how big the hole is in this bead?
A: The holes in these beads are 2mm wide.
Q: Can you tell me if this item is low nickel please?
A: Yes, they conform to the EU Nickel Directives' definition of 'low nickel'. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must not release nickel at a rate exceeding 0.5 micro grams to per square centimetre per week for a period of at least two years of normal use.
Q: Can you tell me the difference between long ballwire fish hooks and FLAT long ball wire fish hooks. I looked at both images but couldn't see any difference. Thanks
A: The flatter shaped long ball wires (LBW1STS and LBW2STS) are made of sterling silver.
Q: Can you tell me the hole size of these beads please?
A: The holes on these beads are 1mm wide.
Q: Can you tell me the size of the hole on the Medium Tube 22P32. Thanks
A: The holes are about 3.5mm in diameter.
Q: Can you tell me what gauge the wire is that they are made of, because I've had some before and they were very thin and not strong enough to use-
A: The 4mm jump rings are about 0.5mm thick, which I think is 25 gauge. They are quite thin, that makes them better for delicate work, like making your own chainmail.
Q: Can you tell me what gauge wire these are please.
A: These jump rings are 0.6mm thick, which is 24/25 gauge, I think.
Q: Can you tell me what the diameter of the hole is in the middle. I need something that will fit on 1mm diameter wire.
A: The holes in these spacer beads are about 1.2mm wide. So they should fit on your wire.
Q: Can you tell me what the hole size is of this product please? thanks
A: Approximately 1.5mm, though the hole sizes will vary somewhat as these beads are handmade
Q: Can you tell me what these are used for? Do they need glue to be stuck to a bead? Thanks
A: Bead caps are used to cap one or both ends of a bead, adding more detail to the piece. You don't need glue, but if you were making a floating necklace you would probably use a crimp to hold them into place.
Q: Can you tell me what this cord is made from? I am looking for a synthetic material so that I can melt the ends.
A: The rat tail contains nylon, so it should melt just fine when you singe the ends.
Q: Can you tell me what this type of bead is better used for? The hole is so big, I presume they're not for thin wire or elastic?
A: Well, the holes on the plastic barrels are 3.5mm wide so I'd recommend some of our coloured elastics www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-elastic/bo903 The holes are so large to enable children to thread them easily and the coloured elastic are ideal for making children's jewellery.
Q: Can you tell me whether these are nickel free? Thank you
A: Our chains conform to the EU nickel directives definition of low nickel. They are not nickel free, you can buy nickel free findings but they are considerably more expensive. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must release nickel at a rate of less than 0.2 µg/cm2/week.
Q: Can you thread cord through this bead?
A: It's designed as a pendant rather than a bead, so the only hole is the one you can see in the centre of the flower which you can indeed thread cord through.
Q: Can you use this type of crimp instead of a regular one covered by a callotte?
A: The ribbon crimp is much larger, to accommodate a piece of ribbon rather than thread. The sides of the crimp are folded down to secure the ribbon, leaving a loop for attaching a clasp.
Q: Coloured Tiger tail 7 strand 9m?
A: We don't stock this at the moment I'm afraid, our plastic coated wire and Beadalon are available in a range of colours though.
Q: Could I have the diameter of these beads please?
Thanks
A: The diameter across, horizontal to the hole, is approximately 12mm.
Q: Could I order a 5 pack with different colours?
A: Yes you can! You need to enter it as a custom mix, so that you can specify your colours and still get the lower price for 5. Just click on the "buy a custom mix" link at the very bottom of the page (under the customer questions box) and the website will let you choose.
Q: Could you let me know the length of the necklace and bracelet? Thanks
A: We made our necklace 60cm and bracelet 20cm but you can vary this and there should be enough beads included to make them a bit longer if necessary.
Q: Could you let me know what measurements the links are on this chain please? Thanks
A: The links are 2mm long and 1.6mm wide, the gaps in the links are 0.5mm wide.
Q: Could you let me see the frequently asked questions and how much is postage and packing
A: The link to the FAQ is at the top of our website, you can access it here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/help.php Our postage charges can be found listed there, but for ease of access here they are: Order value £5 - £29 postage cost £1.95
Order value £30 - £99 postage cost £2.95
Order value £100 - £199 postage cost £4.95
Order value £200 or over post free
Q: Could you please confirm the hole size of all your spiky beads? Many thanks.
A: They all have holes that are 1.5mm wide.
Q: Could you please explain the sizes of beading needles?
A: The higher the number the thinner the needle, so size 15 is the thinnest, with the smallest eye and size 10 is larger with a larger eye.
Q: Could you please let me know whether your cotton thong has a soft drape? I'm looking for something that doesn't fall as stiffly as leather. Thanks.
A: The cotton thong falls fairly stiffly, but you could try the waxed cord instead - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo1180
Q: Could you please tell me how and what I would use to add a colourful stone of some sort onto this to make a nice stud earring and how would I stick it on?
A: To stick two different materials together like glass to metal it is best to use something like epoxy two part glue - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018
Q: Could you please tell me the thickness of the pin. 0.5mm are fine for pearls but 0.7mm are too thick. Thank you
A: Our headpins are about 0.6-0.7mm thick.
Q: could you please tell me what size hole these beads have? I need them to be at least 4.5mm.
A: The holes vary a little but are a shade over 3mm in diameter.
Q: Could you tell how big these are please

A: Yes, colour 11 is a really nice bright scarlet red, with bronzy mottled bits
Q: Could you tell me please how to go about ordering a custom mix of these beads? The custom mix option does not show on this page. Many thanks.
A: The custom mix link is the underlined hyperlink in blue that says "You can also buy a custom mix", right at the very bottom of the page below the customer questions box. If you click on this it will allow you to specify the quantities of each colour you would like in your mix.

A: The holes are between 6-6.5mm, they vary quite a lot because of the way they are manufactured.

Q: Do the chokers already have a fastening attached to them?
A: Yes, they have a screw clasp with a neat little cover that makes the entire clasp look like a little metal tube.

A: They only have a large hole through the middle. You can see some donut type ceramic flowers used in this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/summer-of-love-necklace/55
Q: Do the jump rings overlap at the opening? I had some from somewhere else and the black metal shows due to the SP rubbing off, or not been coated. Thanks
A: No the openings shouldn't overlap, you can close them like this if you want to, tapping them with a little hammer over the join should help secure the overlap.

A: They have little split rings on the end.
Q: Do these beads have a square or round hole in the centre?
A: The holes in all our seed beads are round.
Q: Do these beads lose their colour?
A: They should be colourfast as they are sometimes used to embellish fabric, I think you'd need to handwash any garments you added them to though.
Q: Do these bells make a tingling sound or are they silent?
A: Yes, they make a little jingling sound.

A: Yes, they are pierced by a small hole at the top.
Q: Do these stud findings come with the backs? and if I order the '100' option is that 100 pairs? or 50 pairs? Thanks

A: At the top they have a big loop which bends around and fuses to the back which you can thread through.
Q: Do they have a hole?
A: Only the big one in the middle, there isn't another through the top.
Q: Do you do a bigger size gold or silver clasp? As have seen these before but wondered if you stocked them. Regards, Tanya
A: I'm afraid these are the biggest flat leather crimps we have, but you may be able to fit more thread into a round leather crimp: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-crimp-round-small/bo802
Q: Do you do a larger quantity order than 20 at a time? Thanks
A: No, 20 is the largest packet size that you can order but you can order as many packets as you like. If you order 5 or more of any identical wholesale quantity you get a further 10% off.
Q: Do you do a larger size?
A: No, I'm afraid we don't and we have no plans to add longer or thicker eyepins to our range at the moment. You could always make your own out of silver plated wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-wire/bo914 Our eyepins are roughly 0.6mm thick.

A: These are the biggest organza gift bags that we stock at the moment and we don't currently have any plans to expand our range I'm afraid.

A: The only white in this range is the 'pearl', it's a white base with a transparent plastic coating that adds a lovely sheen to the bead.
Q: Do you do the caps that you can put at each end?
A: I'm afraid that we can't source any memory wire ends that are sufficiently low in nickel content to satisfy EU Nickel regulations, you can buy them from various American companies though.

A: Sorry, we start at 7 strand and work up.

A: No, I'm sorry, we just have 12mm, 14mm and 16mm in this range at the moment.
Q: Do you do these in Gold Plate? Thanks
A: No, I'm afraid we only have silver plated wire guardians, for the foreseeable future.
Q: Do you do these without the ring in the middle, as I have pendants with a loop over for choker to thread through?
A: No I'm afraid they come with a jump ring attached in the middle but you can easily remove it with pliers as they're quite flexible to open.
Q: Do you do this in any more colours?
A: We don't have the kit packed up in different colours but you can order it as a project through our projects page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/pearly-pink-jewellery-set/17 and change the colours yourself.

A: No, I'm afraid we don't. You might be able to shape your own from our 0.6mm silver plated wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-wire/bo914 it's easy to use and you can even flatten it with a hammer.
Q: Do you have a larger version of the straight tubes? say something that is more like 30mm or bigger or could you please suggest anywhere that I might be able to find them? thanks Maggie
A: I've just added some large straight tubes to our website, you can find them at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Straight-tube-2x16mm/bo2039 Unfortunately they won't be a regular stock item, once we're sold out we won't be getting any more in.
Q: Do you have a ring to go with this clasp, i.e. to fasten it to?

A: Yes we have some Swarovski briolettes, you can find them at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Swarovski-misc-beads-pendants/c165

Q: Do you have to clean a domestic oven in any particular way after baking the Fimo clay or is it safe to just use the oven afterwards as normal without cleaning it? Thanks
A: It's perfectly safe to continue using your oven as usual - when you place the Fimo on a baking tray you may want to cover the tray with a sheet of foil to protect it, or have a separate tray for use with your Fimo.

Q: Do you sell calottes/clam shells where you thread the wire throgh the hole then squeeze shut?
A: The calottes we have at the moment are side closing, so you nestle your thread (a knot in the end helps) in the cup shape and then squeeze the other half of the cup over. If you're looking specifically for bottom closing calottes then you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php

Q: Do you sell nylon-tipped pliers?
A: All of our professional pliers are just made from regular steel, without any special coatings. The hobby pliers are made from iron.
Q: Do you sell the little round rubber backs for these fish hook earrings?
A: We sell plastic scroll backs here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Plastic-scroll-back/bo787 but generally people use them for the flat studs because long ball wire style earrings don't need a back to keep them on. If you mean the tiny plastic tubes that are used to hold earrings onto display cards in shops, we get a lot of requests for these but unfortunately we don't stock them, you might be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Do you sell this same package of "heart pony beads" in all "RED" ?

A: Yes, you can find our 6mm bicones at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Glass-crystal-6mm-bicone/bo116 and our 8mm bicones at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Glass-crystal-8mm-bicone/bo117

Q: Does the 100 Beaded Jewellery Designs book have easy as well as more intricate designs. I mostly make necklaces - how many necklace designs are there in the book please?
A: The book states that there are plenty of easy projects for beginners to learn from, with tutorials for all the basic techniques. I don't know the exact number of necklace projects but most seem to be for a matching set so you'd make a necklace and bracelet or a choker and earrings for example, as far as I can see basically all the projects have some form of necklace, choker or pendant included.
Q: Does the 7mm length include the loop at the end of the crimp?
A: They are actually 5mm high (not including the loop) and 7mm is the width of them.

Q: Does this chain have links with a split in that you can pull apart and join together without a jump ring?
A: The links in this chain do have splits in that you can pull apart, it's not as flexible as jump rings though.
Q: Does this include the back stopper?
A: No, it's just the stud and hooks. You can buy the backs separately, they will work with either SB, MSP or PSB scroll backs which can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=scroll+back
Q: Does this product act as a crimping tool as well?
A: No, it's not a specialist crimping tool, which wraps the crimps back over on themselves neatly but you can use the flat part to squash the crimps down.
Q: Does this screw on? If not how is it fixed to the pin? Thanks.
A: You slide the cup onto the pin, it sits on the pin and creates a stop to the beads you add to the pin. Alternatively you could use a very small spacer bead to sit on your pin and prevent your pin head from slipping through your bead.
Q: Don't you have any other colours? Last time I bought more... Thank you
A: These are on sale and are being discontinued from our range, so these are the only colours we have left I'm afraid.
Q: Have they got silver liners?
A: Yes, all our Pandora style beads have silver plated metal lined holes.
Q: Have you any idea what the Black Antique finish is made from? I have to be able to answer customers who ask me about allergic/sensitive skin reactions to this. (SP or GP chain is fine for them). Thank you
A: I think the black antique finish is just a different coating on top of silver plating. All the black antique findings comply to with the EC Nickel Directives definition of 'low nickel', so if our silver plated and gold plated findings are fine then the black antique should be too.
Q: have you any yellow bugle beads 6 or 7mm please
A: No I'm afraid not, all our bugles are just 3''' long.
Q: Have you larger bars? 30mm -3 holes?
A: Yes, you can find our 30mm brooch bars with 3 holes at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brooch-bar-30mm-NP/bo863.
Q: Hello
What colours go into the multimix? I am thinking of getting 50 beads.
Thank you for you reply.
Regards

A: The multi-mix is a random mix of all the colours that we have in stock, you should get a fairly even mix.
Q: Hello - Are both the toggle and the loop hallmarked .925?
A: Yes they are!
Q: Hello could you tell me the size of the hole for the glass crackle gold beads please? Thanks
A: The hole is tiny, about 0.5mm across
Q: Hello I am new to buying beads I am looking for some very small beads about 2 or 3 mm at the most could you please help me they are for decorating boxes etc.
A: Our rocailles (aka seed beads) are the smallest beads we stock, size 11/0 is approximately 1.5x2mm and size 8/0 is approximately 2.5x3mm.
Q: Hello there! I'd like to be awkward and ask if you will have the xilion cut 5301 style in the new colour Red Hot Magma? I'd also like to mention that it may be worth stocking indicolite and light Colorado topaz and maybe the bright turquoise one (blue zir
A: I'm afraid we don't currently stock those colours and I don't know of any plans to expand our colour range at the moment but thanks for your suggestions, I'll pass them on to our buyer.
Q: Hello there, do you do anything similar in black or yellow
and generally what is the hole size drilled in your beads?
A: You could try our 4mm faceted glass beads www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Fire-polished-faceted-4mm/bo164 they have 0.8mm wide holes. The hole sizes vary in our beads, please feel free to ask if there are any specific beads you would like to know the hole size of.
Q: Hello there, I was wondering about the turtles. What animal did the bone come from? Where were they made? Are they hand carved and dyed?
Many thanks
Jackie S
A: All our bone beads are Indian and absolutely nothing goes to waste there. Our buyers have visited a number of bone workshops where various domestic cattle and goat are used. Nothing endangered is required or allowed and nothing is reared with the sole intention of use as a bone product. They are hand carved and dyed.
Q: Hello, I am looking for beads without holes?
would these be what i'm after.
Kind Regards Julie
A: No sorry, all of our beads and pendants have a hole or loop of some kind. You might be able to find a suitable item via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Hello, As an absolute novice, I have just ordered some snake claps for use when beading necklaces at a children's holiday club - what else will I need to make the most simple fastening possible - can they just use a loop of cord or will I need to attach jump rings?
A: You could use a loop knotted from our thin leather (LTN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907 or thin cotton thong (BTN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Cotton-thong/bo908 but any cord that is thicker, or less rigid won't really work very well. In that case I'd suggest using a split ring www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Split-ring-5mm/bo809 or jump ring (If the cord is quite thin you could knot the end and use a calotte to cover the knot and hook onto the clasp).
Q: Hello, can you tell me the thickness of the waxed cord please?
A: The cord is approximately 1mm thick.
Q: Hello, how wide are the holes through the Thai Oval (MPERMX) beads? Thanks.
A: The holes are 2mm wide.
Q: Hello, I am looking for large bags of multi coloured 4mm acrylic faceted beads. you seem to only have them in smaller bags and only certain colours. please let me know as I could send a lot more business your way. Thank You for your time. Lisa
A: The 4mm acrylic faceted beads were discontinued, so all the colours you see are the only ones we have left. I'm afraid we don't stock any other acrylic faceted beads like this, though we do have glass 4mm faceted here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Fire-polished-faceted-4mm/bo164 and here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/AB-moon-bead-fire-polished-faceted-4mm/bo152
Q: hello, I used what I thought was a crimp, On the packet it said crimp covers, what is the difference please. It was a bit tricky to use as they had a split right down the side.
Thank you for your help re needles, it is like having your own personal expert at hand.
A: Crimp covers are used after you have crimped the wire, to hide the crimp. The split down the side is so that you can slide the crimped part of the wire into them and then squeeze closed to make it look like a silver bead.
Q: Hello, I wanted to ask what length are the headpins? I mean in millimetres what length are they.
A: The headpins are 2" long, which is 50.8mm.
Q: Hello, I would like to offer a class as a present, but I do not want to book as I want the person to choose a convenient day and the class she prefers. Do you have class vouchers? Thanks!
A: We don't have specific class vouchers but we do offer online vouchers, so you could buy a online voucher for £25 your friend at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/gift-vouchers/c220 and then they could choose the class which would be most suitable.
Q: Hello, I'm looking at the wildfire thread, can you tell me what size needle I can use with it, I will be stringing 11/0 seed beads so the needle needs to be able pass through them too.
A: It's not actually that thin, so you would have to use it on a bigger size 10 needl, but that should still fit through size 11 seed beads www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Beading-needles-size-10/bo1033
Q: hello, I'm new to jewellery making and was wondering whether I could use this choker with the Swarovski hearts and/or drops? Thanks
A: Sure, all you'd need would be a jump ring, an 8mm one would be best www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Jump-ring-8mm-SP/bo1582 Just open the ring attach the pendant to it, then the choker and close again with a pair of pliers.
Q: Hello, I'm trying to get my hands on kilt pins which unscrew at one end in order to thread beads onto the correct side! These DO exist as I've sourced some in Australia but the shipping is horrendous!! Can you lay your hands on any? Thank you, kind regards, Jean Sumner
A: I'm sorry, I haven't seen them for sale anywhere and we're not planning to add any other kilt pins to our range at the moment, you could try a trawl through the excellent listings on www.craft-fair.co.uk/Supplies.cfm
Q: Hello, please can you advise the difference between these and the fire polished faceted 4mm beads please. I am looking to make the netted bracelet and am not sure which of these beads was used. Many thanks. Jane
A: The moon beads have a kind of iridescent silvery finish which will catch the light on some of the facets, they have a sort of sparkle. The fire polished beads are a flat colour, so just transparent glass.
Q: Hello, What is the hole size on these beads? Many thanks
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 3mm wide.
Q: Hello,What is the diameter of these beads please? Thanks
A: The diameter is approximately 16mm
Q: Hello. I need 0.2mm silver plated and gold plated wire. Hobbycraft do it but it's really expensive. Will you be stocking it at all?
A: I'm afraid the only 0.2 plated wire we have is our lacemakers' wire, which can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=lacemaker You may be able to find another supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: Help! How does one buy a project sheet?
A: We don't actually sell the project sheets, they're included free of charge with the project ordered.
Q: Hey, is this fimo effect or fimo soft? Thanks!
A: The plain blocks are Fimo Soft, but the blocks that are metallic, transparent, stone effect, glittery or glow in the dark are all Fimo Effects.
Q: Hi - can you tell me what the coating and varnish are - I am looking for child safe and non toxic- thanks
A: These are non-toxic and comply with EU regulations, I don't know the exact finish of the beads but they are child-safe.
Q: hi - do you sell these without the clasp? Or some other chain with large enough links to put a clasp through? Thanks
A: We sell two thicknesses of loose chain by the metre at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/chain/c64
Q: Hi - do you sell this, or any similar chain, in sterling silver?
A: I'm sorry we don't have any sterling silver chain as the cost would be prohibitive.
Q: Hi - what gauge is this jump ring? I'm looking for an 18g jump ring,
A: They're approximately 0.6mm which is close to a 22 gauge.
Q: Hi are these jump rings suitable for making chain maille?
I want to mix gold and silver plated ones.
Thanks
A: Yes, these would be perfect for making chain maille. You could have a look at our projects for some ideas, for example this set uses chain maille techniques with jumprings - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/medieval-jewellery-set/80
Q: Hi Are these suitable for earrings?
A: Yes, they're nice and light and should be perfectly suitable!
Q: Hi Can you tell me if all your metal pendants and charms are lead and nickel free?
A: We haven't had these tested so I can't say for sure I'm afraid. All of our items comply with current nickel regulations, please ask for our free nickel leaflet if you need more information.
Q: Hi Can you tell me what the wire gauge is on this product and do you do these in 1.5 inches.
A: They are 0.5mm thick, which is 25 gauge, I think and we only sell 1'' or 2" long headpins in the sterling silver I'm afraid.
Q: Hi could you tell me the diameter of the hole please. Thanks Chris
A: These tubes have approximately 2mm wide holes (they are handmade, so they can vary slightly).
Q: Hi Could you tell me the thickness (wire gauge) of the jump rings please as this information isn't provided. Kind regards.
A: The 8mm jump rings we have are roughly 1mm thick (sometimes they can vary slightly in thickness)
Q: Hi do you have any of the other colours in a medium thickness?
thanks
Crista
A: Sorry, we don't but we have lots of colours in thin (LTN).
Q: hi do you have these in colour vitrail? its like a black/multi tone colour
A: Not at the moment, we're hoping to expand our range at some point however.
Q: Hi do you have this bead mix in pink?
A: No, we just have the colours listed. We do have other mixes in pink however, both our high quality glass mix and our pearl mix can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=glxh
Q: Hi do you sell 28g wire and 26g wire please looking to make dolls jewellery and tiara's
A: 0.4mm is roughly equivalent to 26 gauge and 0.3mm to 28 gauge. We have wire in various finishes in both these widths at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71
Q: hi i only really want the animal /figure beads is that possible
A: I'm afraid not, we only sell them as a mixed bag, sorry!
Q: hi is this a crimp bead, as dont no what pressed bead means
A: No, these can't be crimped. They're often used as spacer beads, 'pressed' refers to the way the beads are made, these beads are pressed together which is why they have a faint seam around one side.
Q: Hi there can you tell me the hole measurement of the 15mm round wood bead. Thanks
A: The hole is approximately 2.5mm in diameter.
Q: Hi there I was wondering if you can use the waxed cord for things like friendship bracelets, macrame and kumihimo? Thanks
A: The thread is 1mm thick, which I think is slightly thicker than threads usually used for friendship bracelets. However it is pretty flexible and easy to knot so I don't see why you couldn't try it.
Q: Hi There if it's end of line does it mean you will not get any of these in again in future or will it be replaced with a similar product? These are really good quality and affordable crystals.
A: Yes, our 'end of line' products are items that are being discontinued. Once gone, they're gone and we won't be getting them back in again. Often items are discontinued because we have a new product that is very similar (in this case our Swarovski crystal bicones - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Swarovski-bicone-xilion-beads/c228 )
Q: Hi There, can you tell me how thick each ring is? I am planning on threading a few together and wanted to know how many I would need to get a finished length of 100mm. Thanks!
A: Each jump ring is 0.6mm thick.
Q: Hi there, do you think that your 12mm glass pearls would take your 1mm elastic thread? We have been asked to make a necklace for a lady with MS who cannot get ordinary necklaces over her head.
A: The holes are too small to use our regular coloured elastics but you could use our elasticity www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Elasticity-thick-25m/bo1632 it's strong, clear and stretchy, sort of like elasticated Nylon. I've tested it with the pearls and it fits through the holes fine. Just make a couple of tight knots to finish and put a dab of clear nail varnish or superglue on the knot to seal it.
Q: Hi there, does this product look like fishing line and does it come in different thicknesses. Thanks, Anna
A: Yes, the clear elasticity does look like transparent nylon fishing wire. Our elasticity comes in two thicknesses: thin: 0.5mm and thick: 0.8mm.
Q: hi there, how many snowflakes are in each kit please?
A: The kit contains the products needed to create one snowflake decoration.
Q: Hi there, please can you tell me how to use this? Do you just fill the wire with beads and then curl the ends so that they hook together?
Thank you.
A: Yes, that's exactly right! The ends don't have to hook together, you can just curl them over to finish it off or glue a bead on the end as a stopper if you'd rather finish it off that way instead. Take a look at this project for more ideas on how to use memory wire chokers - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/blue-moon-necklace/62
Q: Hi there, was just wandering if these 25mm beads came with an 11mm hole in them, or even possibly no hole? I'm thinking of ordering over 300. Thank you. (WDCA25)
A: The holes in these beads are approx 3.5mm in diameter
Q: Hi there. Can you please tell me the diameter of the wire? Many thanks
A: They are about 0.7mm thick.
Q: Hi this is probably a stupid question but as these are called bead cages, can you put a bead on the inside of it? Thnx!
A: They are quite flexible so you can pull them apart, slip a bead inside and then squash them closed again.
Q: Hi what is the internal hole diameter? Thanks v much
A: It can vary a little as the beads are hand made, our current batch has holes of approximately 1.5mm.
Q: Hi what kind of wire do I require for the pandora beads? and do they require a clasp at the end? Thankyou
A: It depends what you are making out of them and what you'd like it to look like. The holes in Pandora beads are large so you can fit pretty much whatever you like through them. We sell bangles specifically for them here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Wire-band/bo1847 or for other ideas like using chain or ribbon you could take a look at some of our projects, for example this Twisted Ribbon necklace - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/twisted-ribbon-necklace/83 or this Retro Set - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/retro-style-necklace-bracelet/61
Q: hi what size bead will fit in these?
A: I tried our 6mm Czech glass and that was a perfect fit, so anything up to that size.
Q: Hi you used to have a purple leather thong - do you not stock this any more ?
Crista
A: We only have our purple leather thong in thin (LTN) now, along with lots of other new colours.
Q: Hi! Is this a pendant only or can I string them?
A: You can string them, it's possible to put a bead inside the cage and thread the cord or wire through from top to bottom too.
Q: Hi,
If I bought some spectacle ends, what else would be good to buy for the chain or beaded length?
Many thanks.
Mel
A: Beading wire would be your best bet, as it's strong but very flexible. Find our range at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/beading-wire/c70
Q: Hi,
I have been using Beadalon Supplemax to make beaded swarovski crystal rings but I don't find it particularly strong and it can snap, would Beadalon Wildfire or Dandyline be an ideal alternative?
A: Without knowing exactly what it is you are doing with the thread, it's very hard to say whether you can substitute one thread for another. However, Wildfire can be used for many techniques from basic stringing to weaving, and it's flexible, supple and very tough. Our resident bead tutor uses Wildfire or Nymo for all her Swarovski classes. I would recommend playing around with other threads until you find what works best for you.
Q: Hi, Are calottes the best thing to use to fasten a necklace made on beadalon wire? Also, is this wire only really to make floating necklaces with crimps, or can you put heavy beads on it?
A: You can use calottes with the beadalon wire, you would have to crimp a loop and then squash this inside the calotte. If you simply place a strand of the wire inside the calotte and then squash it closed the wire will slip out, so you need to give it something to grip on to. You can use beading wire with all sorts of beads, it's tough so you don't need to worry about using it with heavier beads, just watch out for the fastening and crimping parts as this will be where any weakness in the piece will appear.
Q: Hi, are these jump rings open or closed?
A: All of our jump rings are open.
Q: Hi, are you pliers and cutters made of stainless steel
A: Our craft pliers and cutters are made of steel but not stainless steel I believe.
Q: Hi, can I use these clasp to make a breakaway necklace? Being around small children I am going to make my own necklace but need a good breakaway clasp and these seem perfect...thank you.
A: Yes, they are easy to use and the magnetic bond is quite strong, I wouldn't use them on heavy metal or glass necklaces though.
Q: Hi, can you please tell me the 25mm is width or height or both?
A: The cages are 25mm from one end to the other, but they should be a similar measurement across, too.
Q: Hi, can you tell me if your Japanese seed beads are Toho, Miyuki or Matsuno.
A: They are all sourced from Matsuno.
Q: Hi, can you tell me what is the guideline for bead cap sizing please? i.e. if I am using 10mm round beads what size bead caps do I need? Also can I use bead caps on oval beads or just round ones? Many thanks
A: To be honest there aren't really any hard and fast rules about this, it's more about the angle of the cup of the bead cap than the overall size. This 10mm cap: CAPA, has quite a flat cup, which means it spreads out wide and a 10mm bead looks a bit silly sitting on it (more of a bead sombrero than a bead cap!). You'd need a bigger bead for it, maybe 12mm. I've tried a 10mm bead with CAPB www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Bead-cap-7mm/bo1816 the 7mm cap and it looks a bit better. You can use bead caps on oval beads, CAPB looks quite good with our Indian glass ovals www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Lustred-10x8mm-oval/bo2089
Q: Hi, could you advise me what sorts of lengths the offcuts would be please? My daughter is having a party and I thought the girls might like to make a necklace with one of the aluminium pendants. I wanted to know if I'd be able to make 6 out off the offcuts. Also is leather the ideal product to use or would it be better to use the waxed cotton? Thank you in advance for your help. Rebecca
A: All the pieces in the offcuts bags are at least 1m long, some bags will contain 2m or 3m lengths as well. You tend to get about 4 different colours in each bag, so I reckon there would be enough to make 6 necklaces. As to leather or cotton, it's really a personal preference. Cotton is stronger and comes in brighter colours but leather feels lovely, it really depends on what look you are going for.
Q: Hi, could you please tell me if the holes are big enough to pass a leather thong of 1.5mm through them twice? Thanks
A: The holes are about 4.5mm wide, so yes two strands of 1.5mm leather should fit.
Q: Hi, could you please tell me which wire is best to use for threading beads on to the tiara i.e. crystals and pearls? Many thanks, sue
A: I would recommend our silver plated wire, you can find it at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-wire/bo914 You can find a tiara project, with instructions and tips, that you may be able adapt to your own design at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/fireworks-tiara/63
Q: Hi, could you tell me if the tools e.g. round nosed pliers and flat nosed pliers and also wire is included in this beginner's pack? Thanks
A: The beginner's pack contains 1 x Special mix craft pliers (CPSX) which is a pair of flat nosed and round nosed pliers and a pair of cutters, and 1 x 9m reel silver Beadalon (BDW0731)
Q: Hi, could you tell me the hole diameter. I am interested in purchasing the beads to thread on round leather cord, many thanks, Sandra
A: They have a 2mm hole and should fit on any of the thicknesses of leather that we have at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907
Q: Hi, could you tell me the hole size for both the cotton and crochet beads please. Thanks
A: The cotton stripy beads have holes that are 4.5mm wide and the crochet beads have holes that are 3mm wide.
Q: Hi, could you tell me what size the centre hole is, please? Thanks!
A: The holes are 2.5mm - 3mm wide, they vary because of they way they are manufactured.
Q: Hi, do the cutters cut beadalon wire?
A: Yes, our cutters and wire nippers will all cut Beadalon wire.
Q: Hi, do these have a hook which is adjustable so that I can loop to a pandora bail please? Thanks
A: Yes, you can open and close the hook in the top of the pendant with pliers, it is a simple plated wire.
Q: Hi, do you have black, red, purple, silver & dark grey in the 12mm beads?
A: Sorry we only have the colours listed and no current plans to enlarge the colour range.
Q: Hi, Do you have these in any other colour? I've seen them in various other colours on some other websites. Thanks.
A: I'm afraid these are all the colours we have in the 4mm but we do have a new range of larger glass pearls at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/high-quality-glass-pearls/c104
Q: Hi, do you sell freshwater pearls?
A: No, we stock a large range of glass pearls but no freshwater ones. You may be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: Hi, does the hole run from edge to edge or through the centre of the square (I assume not as can't see any holes on the photos)?
A: The hole in these beads runs from edge to edge.
Q: Hi, Does the wire go completely around the outside edge of the glass pendant ? Are there any greens in the multi-mix pack ? Do you sell a product that can turn these into necklaces i.e.: cords with clasps ? or chains ? or plain cords ? Thank you so very much!
A: The wire does go all the way around the outside edge of the pendant, but I'm afraid there probably won't be any green in the mix as it is a discontinued item and we only have the colours you see listed. We sell all kinds of cords and clasps so that you could make it into a necklace however you like, but we do stock some ready made up chokers so that all you need to do is add the pendant and maybe a jump ring. We have rubber, metal or wire based ones here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=choker We also stock assembled chains with the clasps already attached, these can be found with the rest of our chain here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/chain/c64
Q: hi, how big are the holes? thanks.
A: The holes are 3.5mm wide.
Q: Hi, how do I order a pack of multi mix letters, 100 quantity? Thanks
A: The glass letters are discontinued and we do not have a full alphabet, so we are not selling them in a pre-mixed bag. However you can buy a custom mix of the letters that we do have by clicking the "buy a custom mix" link at the very bottom of the page under the customer questions box. Otherwise, you can buy a mix of our (almost identical) plastic letters here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Plastic-letter-beads/bo2031
Q: Hi, how do you close the hoop and stop it from re-opening? Thanks, Tamara
A: One side of the hoop should unhook from the silver plated loop piece, you fill this up with the beads you want and then thread it back in, it should hold well once it's hooked back in the loop piece.
Q: Hi, how does this compare with Soft flex 'heavy" .24in, as I would use it with heavy semi precious stones?
A: As a general rule of thumb the greater the number of strands the greater the flexibility and strength of the wire. The more flexible the wire, the smoother it bends and the more elegantly it drapes. If your jewellery design incorporates glass or semi precious beads which are quite heavy it's recommended to use a stronger wire. Soft Flex 'heavy' has 49 strands, making it the strongest beading wire that we stock. Our plastic coated wire is comparable to our 7 strand Beadalon.
Q: Hi, how long is the thread on each spindle? Thanks
A: There are 55m on each little reel.
Q: Hi, how would I attach this to a necklace? Would a jump ring be strong enough or would I need to use a bail?
A: A jump ring should work just fine, but a bail or a triangle could work too.
Q: Hi, I am looking for a metal (type) plain bead to use on 3mm cord. Would this be a suitable bead? Thanks for your help
A: These beads have a 1.5mm hole, so you'd have to try a bigger bead like the 5x6mm brass barrel www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-barrel-5x6mm/bo3118 which has a 3mm wide hole.
Q: Hi, I am looking for elasticated thread which is as fine as normal cotton thread. Do you stock this? Or could you recommend someone who does?
A: Yes, we have some elasticity, which is like stretchy nlyon really. You can find it in clear and black, in thin: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Elasticity-thin-25m/bo1631 and thick: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Elasticity-thick-25m/bo1632
Q: Hi, I am looking for memory wire that will hold its shape after beads have been applied and bracelet has been taken on and off several times. I purchased a bracelet made out of memory wire at a craft show and it held its shape after many uses. I have tried making bracelets with several different brands of memory wire and it stretches out after wearing several times. Will your memory wire hold its shape?
A: This heavyweight memory wire should always hold the shape that you bend it into. You can bend it with pliers but then it should always spring back into the shape you've created. If you are using really heavy beads I suppose that might affect the bracelet. This is the best memory wire we have found.
Q: Hi, I am looking for some 16mm round ceramic beads in a bright lime green. I particularly like the multi glazed effect as in CEAG28. I have bought these beads before in a different colour so I do realise there will be some colour shading but could you tell me please if the predominant colour of these beads is a bright lime green? Many thanks.
A: As the beads are handmade their shading does vary from one bead to another, but I'd say that they are for the most part a bright lime green. We also stock a 16mm ceramic bead without shading, CEAB28 is a uniform lime green.
Q: Hi, I am unsure of the dimension of the silver clasp, 6x5mm seems very tiny, can you please confirm? Many thanks, Caro
A: Yes, that's right the main body of the clasp, the barrel, not including the loops at either end, is 6mm x 5mm. The magnet is quite strong though and it's easy to pull apart.
Q: Hi, I bought some of these pendants a little while ago but I'm not sure how to use them. On the picture above it looks like there's a little hole at the top that could be used to attach them to something but mine seem to be completely solid! Please tell me
A: These flowers are made of twisted iron thread and don't have a hole for threading just lots of little gaps where you can fit some thin thread through. It's best to use very thin wire or see if you can attach a jump ring or triangle through any of the gaps.
Q: Hi, I bought some of these ring bases a while ago and have recieived the following question from a customer who bought 2 rings that I made using these bases " after wearing them we have both had some green rubbing off on to the skin where the r ings are" - do you know what this could be?
A: Metals that are classified as transition elements (gold, silver, copper, etc.) have varying levels of chemical reactivity, and will react to things in the environment around them. Factors like the air humidity, skin acidity, sweat, chemical changes in the body, make up or moisturisers on the skin and many others can cause reactions. Copper in jewellery can react to turn the skin green, and some people seem to have body chemistry that is more prone to staning than others. You can reduce staining by using different soaps and sun lotions and by avoiding wearing the jewellery out in the sun, to eliminate staining you would need to use more pure metals like titanium, platinum and gold with a higher number of carats. There are ways you can help without having to use more expensive findings. You can coat the inside of the ring with a clear laquer (like clear nail varnish), a simple art product like Krylon Crystal Clear spray or a metal sealant like Everbrite Protective Coating to stop the alloys touching the skin. You can also take the ring to a jeweller and get them to coat the inside with a new layer of metal or a clear protective film along edges that touch your skin.
Q: Hi, I can't seem to order or look at the prices of any of your projects. It says use the buy button but I can't find one! Can you help?
A: If you go to: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/projects.php and click on a project you come through to a page with all the details of the project, instructions, pictures and items, you can then see the prices of the items if you click on 'buy'
Q: Hi, I have covered a number of buttons in vintage lace and wish to make them into ear-rngs and rings. They are large buttons so should I use flat stud pads in larger sizes or is this the standard size? also do I use epoxy 2 part glue?
A: We only stock the 6mm size of flat studs, they should be suitable for most sizes of earring but it is hard to say without seeing quite how large your buttons are. All of our findings are available in retail quantities, so you could just buy a few and see how you go with them at first, if they are too small you may be able to find a supplier of larger ones via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php Epoxy glue is perfect for sticking metals to other materials very strongly so I would think it would be exactly what you need.
Q: Hi, I have the silver plated calotte midi pack and when they are closed together, the s.p is chipping off, so where the hinge part is on the side, it's all a "copper" colour. Should this be happening? Do you have any alternative ways of ending a necklace on your site? Thanks!
A: Over time all plated metals may tarnish or the plating can wear away, it depends on a lot of factors (for example how often the item is used, the weather, where the item is stored) as to how quickly this happens. We do stock a lot of different necklace clasps and cord ends, they can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/clasp-necklace-parts/c59 it really depends what kind of threads you are using as to what would be most suitable. We also stock sterling silver if you want something more hard wearing finish-wise, our calottes are here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Calotte-STS/bo3088
Q: Hi, I know leather is better than waxed thonging and cotton thonging, but as they are cheaper I would use them. Which is better waxed or cotton?
A: The cotton thongs are actually much stronger and last longer than the leather, so that's a big point in their favour. There's not much difference between the waxed cotton thread and the cotton thong really except that the waxed comes in a brighter range of colours and you can get thick cotton thong (up to 2mm).
Q: Hi, I know these are adjustable but are they 'adult' or 'child' size to start with? Just checking as I've made the mistake of buying child size before ( from a different online retailer) and they were tiny - even when adjusted!
Thanks,
Lauren
A: They're fairly small so wouldn't fit all adults, the diameter is between approximately 16-18mm.
Q: hi, i normally buy majic elastic, but want to no if this would work the same as want to use to make bracelets with heavyer glass lamp work beads will it take there wait and not snap or stretch too much, to make saggie
A: Our elasticity is the same thing as Stretch Magic, just a different brand. You'd want to use the thicker elasticity (0.8mm) for heavier beads, you'd need to experiment with the beads that you have to see if it would take their weight.
Q: Hi, I wish to start making necklaces from suede cord but am unsure what end fixings and clasps would be suitable. Could you please advise me?
A: I think the best findings to use would be the flat leather crimps www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-crimp-flat/bo801 and a clasp of your choice. For tips on how to use flat leather see this project: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/seaside-flowers/41
Q: Hi, I would like to buy a large number of these and wonder if you sold the bails to attach these? Many thanks, Jo
A: You could try our bail and loops: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Bail-loop/bo808 with these hearts, they will fit onto them and look pretty nice together. For something simpler try our tiangles: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Triangle/bo807
Q: Hi, I would like to use these to make ear-rings. Do you sell silver findings that could be used to do this ? And would I also need to buy another small circle link that would help them to lie flat ? Also, are there any greens in the multi mix ? Thank you very much!
A: The multi mix is a mix of all the colours in our range that we have in stock, so I'm afraid there probably won't be any green in it. We do indeed sell the earring findings you'd need, all of our Sterling silver is here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/jewellery-findings-sterling-silver/c218 or if you'd just like silver plated, then our earring bits and pieces are here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/earring-parts/c60 The circle links you may need are jump rings, and they can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/jump-rings/c61
Q: Hi, I'm a complete beginner and wanted to be sure that I'm ok to attend any of your jewellery making classes?
A: Yes, you don't need to have any previous beading experience to take part in and enjoy any of our classes. Every part of the process is explained and the groups are kept small so you can be sure of one-on-one attention. You don't need to bring anything with you.
Q: Hi, I'm after beadalon 19 strand bright 0.12 code JW09T XS. Do you stock this?
A: No, I'm afraid we only have this bright 19 strand Beadalon wire, the code is JW14T-O and it's 0.15" or 0.38mm wide.
Q: Hi, I'm looking for heavy weight memory wire which I have had before and made tight fitted cuffs with them, all the bracelet wire I have bought since has been too big/wide, I have been told there is a child's size, do you have anything like this?
A: Well, these memory wire coils would be the best size for a child but still a bit big, they are intended for adults. You can bend and shape memory wire with pliers, squeezing it into a tighter coil, it takes some strength but can be done.
Q: Hi, I'm new to jewellery making and haven't a clue what a crimp cover is or what to do with it (even having read the question and answer above). Can you give a description of what the items are for and how to use them? It would really help when searching on the website for things. Thanks
A: Crimp covers are to disguise crimp beads. When you squash a crimp down to hold a bead or clasp in place you can fit them over the top and squeeze them shut and they just look like a nice round metal bead, all neat and professional. Check out this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/ever-decreasing-circles/60 for tips on how to use them.
Q: Hi, I'm new to making rings. How do I put stones on this do you have anything on your jewellery page to show me how xxx
A: One way of adding beads to these looped rings is by using headpins, you could take a look at this project for some ideas - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/glamorous-ring/68
Q: Hi, I'm trying to match a chain I bought on ebay, which was described as "Chain links are 8mm x 6mm and the wire is 1.2mm thick". Which would be the best match? The medium or the heavy chain? Thanks
A: Our heavy chain is 4mm thick so you'll need something quite a bit chunkier than ours I'm afraid. You'll probably be able to find larger sizes via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Hi, im just wondering if you could give me a more detailed idea of what to expect if I order one of your retailer starter packs. Thanks
A: Of course! You would receive the two wooden bead trays and the standing board with hooks seen in the picture, with a selection of beads and packeted findings to fill them with. You also receive some instruction leaflets and bead collecting baskets, threads and elastic. It comes with merchandising materials and a planogram to help with reordering. The beads and findings do get updated from time to time but they are a selection of our best sellers and tend to include millefiori, moon beads, ceramic pendants, chunky glass pendants and Pandora style beads, plus a selection of metal charms and spacer beads. The findings are a basic selection of earring parts, clasps and jump rings in both silver and gold plate.
Q: Hi, is the hole 6mm or is it the distance across the middle to the outside?
A: 6mm is the diameter of the bead, so straight across from one side to the other.
Q: Hi, is the hole for these in one of the points - can't see cos of the 'sale' sticker! Thanks
A: Yes, it goes through the top point and out of the bottom.
Q: Hi, is the random glass mix recycled glass?
A: No they're not recycled, this particular mix consists largely of lamp beads and kiln glass beads and pendants from India.
Q: Hi, is there a drilled hole through the middle for threading?
A: Yes, the hole is in the middle, as pictured, it's about 6-6.5mm wide, creating a washer shaped bead.
Q: Hi, is there a way to straighten bent or kinked headpins please?
A: If there are kinks in headpins you should be able to straighten them out by running your fingers over them, or with pliers. They should be nice and pliable to enable you to twist and bend them into really interesting shapes.
Q: Hi, just checking, the 12 per pack... is that 12 eyepins per pack x 10 for £4.45? making them 3.7 pence each? Thanks, Sadie
A: Yes, that's right but you can also buy them in regular wholesale quantities of 100 or 500 at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Eyepin-SP/bo771 which should save you a lot of money if you don't need them packeted for retail.
Q: Hi, my class are going to make pendants to sell. If I buy the football beads, what size cord do you recommend please? Thanks
A: If you want to use leather, I'd suggest the thin leather (LTN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907 or you could use elastic www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-elastic/bo903 or any of our waxed cords www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo1180
Q: Hi, Please can you tell me the hole size of this bead. I am looking for a silver metal cube shaped bead with a hole size of 4mm. Many thanks
A: The holes are 1mm wide. I'm afraid that these are the only metal cube shaped beads that we have.
Q: Hi, please could you tell me what are the best beads to use to glue onto the cufflink pad? Thank you
A: The best thing to glue onto a flat cufflink pad would be a cabochon, which is flat backed and not pierced like a bead. I'm afraid that we don't sell any cabochons at all, but you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: Hi, What diameter are the holes in these beads? Thanks, Alex
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 2mm wide but can vary slightly because they are handmade.
Q: Hi, what is fake horn? Is it a form of plastic?
Regards
A: The fake horn beads are a kind of plastic resin.
Q: Hi, What is the thickest gauge of eyepin that you do?
A: We only have the one thickness of plated eyepins, these are 0.7mm thick, which I think is 22 gauge.
Q: Hi, what size bail would I need for these please and do you stock them? Many thanks, Jo
A: You won't be able to use a bail and loop on these beads as the hole runs from the head to the tail of the butterfly, making it a bead rather than a pendant with a hole at the top. I'd use a headpin: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/headpins-eyepins/c62 and twist the top into a loop to make them into pendants that you can hang.
Q: hi, what size bead will fit here?
A: Our 8mm Czech glass beads fit perfectly, so anything up to that size.
Q: Hi, what sort of needle is suitable for threading the beads onto the loom? I recently bought a loom at a bead fair but the box only contained the loom and no other materials so I'm unsure as to what is the best thing to use. Many thanks, C
A: All you need is an ordinary needle with a smallish eye, you could use some of our basic beading needles www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Beading-needles/bo1013
Q: Hi, Which way does the hole run please
Thanks, Ann
A: In the lizard and the turtle the holes run across the face, sort of from eye to eye. In the starfish the hole runs through one of the points, from side to side.
Q: Hi, would a double thickness of 3mm suede fit through the holes in these beads. Thx.
A: No, even though the holes are 1.8mm wide and a double thickness of suede would only be 1mm thick it won't squeeze through because the suede is 2.5mm wide.
Q: Hi, would a double thickness of 3mm suede fit through the holes in these beads? Thx.
A: No, even though the holes are 1.3mm wide and a double thickness of suede would only be 1mm thick it won't squeeze through because the suede is 2.5mm wide.
Q: Hi, would the 8mm Millefiori beads fit onto this wire? Im not sure what size hole the beads have. Thanks :)
A: Yes, they'd fit just fine! The holes are quite small (about 0.6mm) but so is this wire.
Q: Hi, would the calottes you have here be suitable for using with 1mm waxed cotton cord?
A: Yes, the calottes should be fine to use with the 1mm cord, you could get away with using them over one knot.
Q: Hi, yes, I would like to know if you can get these silver foil hearts in red? Thnx
A: I'm afraid we can't get a red in this range, sorry. We do have some red Swarovski hearts at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Swarovski-heart-10-3x10mm/bo2001 and some Chinese glass red hearts at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Glass-crystal-14mm-heart/bo118
Q: Hi. Do you do the waxed cotton cord in white ?
A: I'm afraid not, however we do have a 1.5mm thick cotton thong in white here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Cotton-thong/bo908 and two thicknesses of waxed thread in white here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=waxed+thread
Q: Hi. Would your cotton thong be suitable for slidey knot necklaces?
A: Yes, you can use our cotton thongs to make slip knots on necklaces or bracelets.
Q: Hi...I don't have any use for large (25mm - 35mm) beads. Are the mixes already made up or is it possible to have smaller beads in the mix?
A: The mixes come ready packaged so unfortunately it's not possible to specify what you get in the mix.
Q: Hiya! Can you tell me how big the hole is on this bead - I need beads for threading onto beachwear. Thanks
A: The holes in these beads are 2mm wide. Aluminium might be suitable for beachwear as it doesn't rust, it just forms an oxide layer of Aluminium Oxide and that prevents contact of the metal surface with the atmosphere.
Q: Hiya, how thick is this thread? Would it be suitable for use with the 5mm opaque lamp beads? I am planning to make long bead necklaces without any clasp. thanks.
A: It's really thin, 0.12mm to be exact. It should be suitable for making a necklace with the 5mm glass lamp beads but you might want to be wary of putting too many beads on your necklace, glass beads are quite heavy, even the 5mm are when you use lots of them. Here's a project that uses a similar loom thread and lots of little glass beads: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/spiral-necklace/4
Q: How and why are bead tips used? I have never seen them before.
A: Bead tips can be used on multi-stranded pieces to cover knots, to cover other findings or ends, or just to decorate. For some different ideas of how to use tips you could have a look at the 'Trendy Tribal' project -www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/trendy-tribal-necklace-and-bracelet/85 or the 'Sumptuous Ceramic' set - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/sumptuous-ceramic-set/81
Q: How big are the holes?
A: They are about 1.2mm wide but as these beads are handmade they can vary slightly.
Q: How big are the plastic letter beads in mm?
A: They are 6mm in diameter.
Q: How big are these?
A: These clasps are 13x5mm not including the loops at the end.
Q: How big is the centre hole in these beads? Thanks!
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 4mm wide.
Q: How big is the centre hole? Do all the horn beads have a hole of 2mm / 3mm?
A: These beads have a 2mm hole, most of the horn beads have a similar size hole but they are a handmade product so they may vary.
Q: How big is the centre hole? Will it fit onto cord?
A: These tubes have a 2mm hole, so they'd definitely fit onto any cord thinner than 2mm.
Q: How big is the clasp section in diameter, please?
A: The covers of the clasps are 4mm wide but the widest part that you'd have to thread over would be the internal screw, which is 2.8mm wide.
Q: how big is the heavy hook sprung? I am looking for something that can clip onto a golf bag, perhaps onto a zip or a metal ring.Would I be better getting the large swivel clasps?I want to attach ribbons to them as wind direction indicators
A: They are about 18x6mm. You might find the small swivel clips www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Small-swivel-clip/bo850 a good fit for your zips or rings. I think the large ones would prove too big.
Q: How big is the hole in these 'pearls'? Also how big are the holes in the other sizes of pearls? Thank you.
A: The 16mm glass pearls have holes that are 1mm wide, the other pearls are the same.
Q: How big is the hole in these beads?
A: The holes are just about 1.5mm.
Q: How big is the hole in these, thanks
A: The holes are about 1mm wide.
Q: How big is the hole on these beads?
A: They vary a bit as they're handmade, approximately though MTEP1 is 2mm, MTEP2 is 3mm, MTEP3 is 2mm and MTEP4 is 4mm.
Q: how big is the hole size?
A: The hole is about 1.5mm across
Q: How big is the hole?
A: The holes are about 0.8mm wide
Q: How big is the hole?
A: The holes are 1.5mm wide.
Q: How big is the hole?
A: The holes are about 1mm.
Q: How big is the opening in the bead?
A: The holes in these beads are 4mm wide.
Q: How big is the threading hole in these beads please?
A: These beads have 4mm wide holes in them.
Q: How big roughly are the individual links? I use them to make keyrings but need to know sizes as to whether these would work or not. Thanks
A: The links are roughly 2.25mm long 1.5mm wide and the wire is about 0.4mm thick.
Q: How can I prevent silver plated jewellery getting tarnished?
A: Tarnish is caused by certain compounds in the air, humidity, contact with various materials, liquids, foods, and oils in the skin. How quickly items tarnish depends on how often you wear them, what the weather is like and all kinds of things! It can be prevented by storing silver items in sealed plastic bags. You can even buy anti-tarnish papers to put in with stored items, or anti-tarnish coating products. Polishing silver jewellery helps to prevent tarnish, but you should be careful not to over polish silver-plate as the silver electroplate can eventually wear down and expose the base metal.
Q: How do I attach hook spring to leather thong?
Diane
A: To attach a sprung hook to leather thong you will need a leather crimp, either a round one www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-crimp-round-small/bo802 or a flat one www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-crimp-flat/bo801. To see instructions on how to use round leather crimps check out this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/summer-of-love-necklace/55
Q: How do I do a custom mix for this item?
A: At the bottom of the page, under the customer questions box there is a link in blue that says 'You can also buy a custom mix'. If you click on this it will take you to a screen where you can specify the colours and quantity of the item you want.
Q: How do I get the £9.95 custom mix?
A: At the very bottom of the page, below the customer questions box, is a bright blue link that says "you can also buy a custom mix". If you click this it will take you to a screen where you can select the quantities and colours that you would like.
Q: How do I order a custom mix of these square flattie vacuum plated beads. It doesn't give me an option to do this.
A: The custom mix link is the underlined hyperlink in blue that says "You can also buy a custom mix", right at the very bottom of the page below the customer questions box. If you click on this it will allow you to specify the quantities of each colour you would like in your mix.
Q: How do I order a custom mix?
A: At the bottom of this page www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Gift-bag-70x90mm/bo1667 which lists all the colours available underlined in blue is 'buy a custom mix' if you hold your cursor over this you'll find that it is a link, click on it and it will take you through to a page where you can specify the colours and quantities in your mix.
Q: How do I use rat tail?
A: Rat tail can be used like any other non-stretchy thread. It's silky (made from polyester) so it's easy to thread and knot. You can use the bigger crimp ends (LF and LRS) on it if you need to add a clasp. We think it's great for simple threading with plastic beads for kids.
Q: How do the snake clasps work? They look neat. Do they need a ring or similiar to fasten them to?
A: The are neat, they're fused on one side so you can incorporate that into a loop that you're making and all you'd need is a jump ring or split ring to hook the other end onto.
Q: How do you know how long it is?
A: It's 16 inches long, from clasp to end, which is about 40cm.
Q: How do you make the tiara?
A: You can wrap wire around the tiara base and add beads, why not look at some of our projects for ideas on how to use tiara bases? The 'Hearts Entwined' tiara can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/hearts-entwined-tiara-and-bag-charm/73 our 'Clematis' tiara is here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/clematis-tiara/3 and the 'Fireworks' tiara can be seen here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/fireworks-tiara/63
Q: How do you spend them?
A: When you purchase an online gift voucher, an e-mail will be sent to the recipient with a link and password to log in to our website. Once logged in the vouchers appear as credit on your account with us, so the amount will automatically come off your orders.
Q: How do you stop flatties from twisting and turning on the thread, in other words, how do you keep them still?
A: You could try a crimp, tightly fitted to either end, squashed flat, rather than neatly turned over with crimping pliers. Thicker thread will also help.
Q: How do you use these cages, and get the beads inside. Thank you, Morag
A: You should be able to just slip the beads between the coils of the spiral by pulling it apart a little, and it will squash back into shape.
Q: How do you use these? Do you simply press the tubular bit over the end of your thread (i.e after completing your necklace) then attach the ring onto your clasp or a jump ring?
A: Yes, that's exactly right!
Q: How do you use this? It may seem obvious to everyone, but we're still learning. Thank you!
A: You just have to slip the cover over your crimp and squeeze it shut with pliers.
Q: How does the crimp cover function?
A: The crimp covers fold over the flattened crimp and disguise it. If you have used crimps to secure wire and you want to hide them, placing the crimp cover over and using pliers to squeeze it shut will make it look like a spacer bead. You could take at look at this project for ideas on how to use them - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/wire-pearl-necklace/65
Q: How flexible is this wire, and would it be possible for me to use it instead of a soft flex fine wire in a bracelet? Thank you
A: The beadalon wire is really flexible and shouldn't kink, it should hold its shape. It is a perfect beading wire for a bracelet.
Q: How heavy is 1 bead? What kind of material are they made out of (iron, aluminium etc...)?
A: These 3mm spacers weigh 0.0001g. They are hollow, made out of a base metal with a silver plating.
Q: How large are these beads?
A: The plastic barrel shaped beads are 6x8mm and the star shaped beads are 13mm.
Q: How large is the bead hole in 6mm and 8mm bead?
A: Both these beads have holes of approximately 1mm.
Q: How large is the hole in the centre?
A: The holes in these beads are about 1mm wide.
Q: How large is the hole in these beads?
A: These beads have a 1.2mm hole.
Q: How long are these beads. I need 5/6mm ones
A: 3''' is a special seed bead notation, they are all 5mm long.
Q: How long does the colour on the beads last?
A: It should last for a very long time. The wood is dyed and then varnished, so the colour isn't just a layer on the surface. I guess the colours may fade if you have them in direct sunlight but that should take years to occur.
Q: how long does the order take to arrive?
A: We aim to despatch your order within 2 working days of receipt. The cut off for same day despatch is normally midday but can be as early as 11am depending on our workload. After this time your order is likely to wait until the following day. It is extremely rare for orders without outstanding queries to be despatched later than 48 hours after receipt. We usually use first class post and 48 hour parcel service. First class post normally arrives within a day or two and is not traceable.
Q: How many beads are there in 100g?
A: I'm afraid there's no way of telling how many beads come in 100g as these mixes have so many different sized beads in them and each bag will have different quantities.
Q: How many beads in a gram, any idea how big beads are?
A: The beads in this mix vary tremendously in size (from approx. 4mm - 35mm) and shape so that's a tricky one, it'll generally be between 25-50 per 100g. Sorry, we really can't be more exact!
Q: how many beads on average to 100g and are they of mixed sizes
A: They are of very mixed sizes (between approx. 4mm-15mm) so it's tricky to give a quantity, as a very rough guide you could expect between 100-200 beads.
Q: How many beads would it take roughly to make a basic bracelet?
A: It takes about 24 8mm beads to make a 18cm long bracelet.
Q: How many compartments does it have and how big are they?
A: The seven section plastic box has seven compartments, the three in the middle are 60mm by 28mm and the four at the sides are 43mm by 26mm.
Q: How many different colours do you do & can the public buy from you, or is it only business.
A: We accept orders from everybody, you don't need to be a business. We have a lot of different coloured rocailles, in the Japanese size 8 opaque ones specifically we have about nine colours.
Q: how many of the various glass beads do you get for 100g?
A: The beads in this mix vary tremendously in size so that's a tricky one, it'll generally be between 25-50. Sorry, we really can't be more exact!
Q: how many of these beads to make a 16 inch necklace
A: If you wish to completely fill the necklace you'll need 29 14mm beads.
Q: How much is in the packs? There is a price for 10 packs but I dont know how much is in the packs.
A: The price is for ten retail packs of 5g each. As the mixed rocaille sweepings is a totally random mix of both size 8 and 11 rocailles and bugles it is virtually impossible to say how many beads this is. To give you some idea, a 5g packet of size 8 rocailles contains somewhere around 150 beads, and a 5g packet of size 11 rocailles will have more like 500.
Q: How much would one of these bags hold - ie 10g or 20g
A: They will happily hold 10g of seed beads or other small beads, I don't think you could squash much more in.
Q: How strong is the suede? If I was to pull it with both hands would it break? I've found this with some synthetic suede. Thank you
A: The suede, while not being the strongest of threads, should be strong enough not to snap if you pull it but it's a natural product so can vary in thickness.
Q: How thick are these?
A: Our headpins are about 0.6-0.7mm thick.
Q: how thick is elasticity thick?
A: EYK is approximately 0.8mm thick.
Q: how thick is it?
A: It's very thin, like a sewing thread. About a tenth of a millimetre.
Q: How thick is the chain? Is it the same as the trace chain that is available on this site?
A: The assembled chains are approximately 1.75mm thick and our trace chain is approximately 2.4mm thick.
Q: How thick is the thread?
A: It's 0.15mm thick.
Q: How thick is this thread? Also, does it leave a waxy residue on your hands or have a waxy smell? Some of the waxed threads I have bought in the past do and it is quite off-putting. Many thanks
A: It's really thin, just 0.35mm wide! I can't discern any kind of smell and when you run it through your fingers they feel fine, not waxy at all.
Q: How to secure clasp onto thread so that is tight and wont come loose
A: First thread your crimp onto a length of wire, then your clasp, then loop the end of the wire back through your crimp and squash it tight with a pair of pliers. Your clasp should be securely fixed within the loop. You can make a simple loop on the other side to hook it onto, or try adding in a jump ring or split ring for a more professional finsh. Take a look at our project page for some ideas and step-by-step instructions www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/projects.php
Q: How wide are they in mm? I need to know what size the bead hole should be to fit...
A: The hat pins are just under 1mm thick, so you should be able to slip on beads that have a 1mm hole or bigger. The pin head is 1.5mm wide, so if the holes in the bottom bead that you put on is any wider it will slip off.
Q: how wide is the hole?
A: The hole is approximately 2mm however as these beads are handmade the size can vary slightly.
Q: How wide is the thong?- I'm looking for 0.6mm
A: The cotton and thong come in the following widths: thin (BTN) is 1mm, medium (BTM) is 1.5mm and thick (BTK) is 2mm.
Q: Hows do I redeem my £2.50 off my next order?
A: If you have bought the catalogue, the £2.50 is automatically credited to your account and will come off the total of your next order.
Q: I am a beginner and was oringinally shown beading with thread and a flexible needle, would a solid beading needle be easier to use?
A: I guess it depends what kind of beading you are doing with the needle, for some weaving it would be easier but for mostly stringing beads a needle with some flex is ideal.
Q: I am buying waxed cord (1mm) and I am hoping that these charms will fit round them, I am useless with measurements so I was wondering if you could help me out, if any of these charms will be able to be slid around the cord. It would be a great help, thankyou.
A: The waxed cord fits through the ring on these charms just fine, though if you had charms with a smaller loop or wanted to use a thicker thread you could always add a jump ring for greater ease.
Q: I am combining this chain with antique silver charms and find it too bright. I cant find antique silver chain on your site - any suggestions?
A: We stock all sizes of our chain in a black antique finish, if that is not suitable then you may be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: I am considering buying this item but I wonder if this product is nickel free or not?
(I've heard that some sterling silver contains nickel...)
And, is it £7.50 per 20 items means, 10pairs? or 20pairs?
A: The sterling silver findings that we have are all 'low nickel', they only contain a trace of nickel. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must release nickel at a rate of less than 0.2 micrograms of nickel per square centimetre per week. For more useful information about nickel check out the Birmingham Assaye office's website at: www.thelaboratory.co.uk/nickel.html
These long ballwires are £7.50 for 20 pieces, so that would be 20 in total or 10 pairs.
Q: I am doing craft work with elderly people in a home and one lady has asked if we could make jewellery. As I've not worked with beads, I thought it might be simplest for them to string beads onto elastic. Would these beads go on easily to the elasticity EYK01? Also do we need to thread them on with a needle or just the elastic? Thanks, Maureen
A: These beads should fit fine on EYK, it's best to dab the knot with a bit of superglue or clear nail varnish to make sure it holds fast. The elasticity is pretty easy to thread as it doesn’t fray, you shouldn't need to use a needle.
Q: I am interested in learning to make jewellery - I buy so much! Which is the best class for a complete beginner? I thought perhaps the "basics" class. I work full time so would either need to book time off work or preferably do it at a weekend. Could you guide me please?
A: Any of our classes would be suitable for a complete beginner, you don't need to worry about that. Just pick the class that features the jewellery that you would like to make and we'll do the rest!
Q: I am interested in making wedding jewellery. Which classes would suit this the most?
A: The details of all the classes are listed, so it really depends what kind of jewellery you have in mind. The Swarovski classes would be perfect for delicate, sparkly pieces while the wire classes would teach you how to make more ornate sculptural jewellery. You can always email us at mailbox@beadsunlimited.co.uk and we can put you in touch with Jane, who runs the classes, to discuss what would be most appropriate for you.
Q: I am interested in spacer beads with a 5mm hole, do these match my requirements
A: I'm sorry, the holes on these beads are only 2mm wide. The only spacers we have with larger holes are the brass barrels www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-5x6mm-barrel/bo396 which have 4mm holes.
Q: I am looking for 'end caps' to secure the ends of multi strand beads
A: Check out our new 'bead tips' at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=tip or we sell sterling silver end caps here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp-end-cap-with-ring-STS/bo3090
Q: I am looking for brass wire for loops to attach to fishing weights is 1mm wire strong. Jim McEwan
A: 1mm wire is very strong, you wouldn't be able to snap it easily.
Q: I am looking for large beads, for macramé craft work, the ones I buy are from the USA, how big are the holes? I need a hole that will take 4 x 6mm cords, can you help? Any varnished or maple/walnut colour? many thanks, Maureen
A: The holes in these beads are 4mm wide. I'm afraid we don't have any wooden beads with much larger holes, even the largest (40mm) only have 4mm holes, you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php,
Q: I am looking for memory wire between 35mm and 40mm in diameter to make napkin rings.
A: I'm afraid we don't have any rings of that diameter but you can bend and shape memory wire yourself with pliers, to the required diameter. It is quite tough but it will bend and then spring back into the shape you've given it.
Q: I am looking for these in Chocolate brown to match a necklace? do you have any please. Thanks Linda
A: We have these beads in an amber colour which is the closest to a chocolate brown that we have, you can see them here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-foil-plain-heart/bo1554
Q: I am looking for this type of bead in a Ruby colour - any idea if you have such a thing? Thanks.
A: We only have the colours that are listed, I would have thought that the crimson shade (GLTG11) would be closest to what you are looking for.
Q: I am quite new to jewellery making can you tell me what I should use this item for?
A: Wire guardians are little horseshoe shaped tubes which can protect loops of threads close to findings and clasps. You push your thread through them and you have a strong and professional looking loop. It's basically a metal jacket for your thread in the place where it's put under the most strain.
Q: I am trying to find some square flat 8mm bead/buttons with a central hole running from front to back if that makes sense! Can you help?
Gill
A: I'm afraid we don't have anything like that, but you may be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: I am trying to get hold of specific colours of plastic beads for children to thread to make bracelets. the colours I need are :- RED, GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE, BLACK, WHITE, PURPLE,& PINK.
Can you help please ?
A: Our plastic barrel pony beads are very popular with children, and I think we have every colour that you are looking for in the opaque range. The full range of colours can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Opaque-barrel-pony/bo2407 You can either order a full packet of each, or however many you need individually.
Q: I am wanting to make wire hearts with beads threaded on. What is the hole size on the tiny glass lamp beads - the wire I am planning to use is the 2mm aluminium wire - I presume it will hold its shape
A: The tiny glass lamp beads have very small holes, even relative to their size, they are about 0.5-1mm wide. The aluminium wire is really easy to bend and shape so it doesn't hold its shape very well under pressure, some of the thicker metal based wires www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71 are better for this.
Q: I am wanting to string these together as part of a wedding cake decoration - what thread would you recommend? clear beads round a white cake
A: If you'd like the thread to blend in I'd suggest using our nylon, it's like a fishing wire and should be fairly invisible against your cake! It comes in thick or thin and both can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/nylon/c68
Q: I badly need a source for black or gun metal findings especially crimps. Do you sell them - I can't find any other than sterling silver.
A: You'll find crimps in a black antique, silver plated or gold plated finish at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: I bought a fab packet of mixed blue beads from you and love the spotty ones especially. Are they listed separately for sale? if so where do I find them?
Tnx
A: Well the fancy mix is made up of all sorts of random decorated Indian glass lamp beads, each batch is dramatically different, so we might not have the ones you liked for sale separately but have a look at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/decorated-glass-lamp-beads/c2 to see if you can find anything similar.
Q: I bought some of these and I just cannot get them apart!! Wendy
A: The magnets are quite strong! I find it's better to slide them apart, or try to open them by pulling on the cord you've threaded them on, giving better leverage. Once they're part of a necklace or bracelet they should be easy to pull apart. If none of these ideas work then your bag must be faulty so please e-mail us to arrange returning it.
Q: I find these really tricky to close with flat nose pliers - do you have any tips?
A: They are quite tricky and require a lot of patience! I tend to try and squash in the middle of one flap with round nosed pliers, then squash down the rest of that side. Once you've got one side flap fully bent over then you can bend the other side flap over that with force to get it nice and neat. I favour round nosed pliers because I find you can get a tighter squeeze with them (lots of little tight squeezes as oppsed to being able to squash the whole flap down in one go with the flat nosed) but you can make these crimps look good with flat nosed pliers.
Q: I have a lot of necklaces to put extension chains on, which chain would be best to use for this? I have used some before that was too heavy and pulled the necklace down at the back of the neck.
A: The extension chains here are ideal, they're very light and the links are quite large. You could try using a non-extension chain like the CHH or CHL, but it may be too heavy depending on the materials you are using. The trace chain (CHTR) is very light but the links are very small so you may not be able to clip your clasps into it.
Q: I have been making and selling jewellery for over a year but would really now like to make it even more professional in the finish. I am looking for a class that will help me finish my necklaces etc, in a professional way. Would any of your classes suit?
A: The basics class is mostly about findings and how to finish pieces off, this might be helpful depending on how comfortable you feel with all the different types of findings. All the other classes are really more specific and focus on making a particular item or type of jewellery.
Q: I have been using 1mm cotton cord to make knotted lariats, can I use this thread in the same way?
A: Yes you can, the silk cord is perfect for knotting projects.
Q: I have got head pins and eye pins, how do I use them to make earrings please? Thanks, mel
A: You would need some earring hooks like our long ballwires for example www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Long-ballwire-fish-hook-SP/bo772 Then you can add beads to the headpins and eyepins making loops out of the ends and attach the loops to the earring hooks. Take a look at this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/pink-and-grey-vintage-earrings/69 to see beaded headpins and earring findings used together.
Q: I have never used a bead loom before and it is something I would like to learn how to do but I was wondering how you can finish off bracelets and possibly necklaces or even earrings with clasps/fishhooks if you use a bead loom? Also I notice you recommend seed beads but could you incorporate bugle beads? Thanks for your help.
A: When you finish a piece on a bead loom you have to knot off the threads and so you can easily tie on a clasp and ring. You can even make clasps out of seed beads to add to the end. You get an instruction leaflet with the loom that shows you how to set it up, with some quick projects but we also sell a 16 page Bead looming book at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Bead-loom-instruction-booklet/bo929 which has loads of projects and helpful hints. I should think you would be able to incorporate bugle beads, it would require setting up the loom a bit differently, but I'm sure once you've mastered the set-up it should be possible.
Q: I have purchased your bootlace thin black cord code number BTN401. Is this waxed cord the same as that? You no longer appear to stock BTN401 and it was perfect for my use. Thank you.
A: The BTN401 is a code from our packeted range that corresponds to our thin black cotton thong BTN01 www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Cotton-thong/bo908
Q: I have seen a bracelet made with square two holed millefiore beads. Do you have any? Or other two holed beads?
A: Sorry, I'm afraid we don't have any beads with two holes through them, you might find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php .
Q: I have seen the flattie star (MTFA1) and would like to know where the hole is. Can you help?
A: The hole goes from side to side, between two of the points.
Q: I know that the jump rings are closed, but how well closed are they? i.e is there a tiny gap or no gap?
A: There is a tiny gap, we do also have split rings in this size at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Split-ring-5mm/bo809 if these would be more suitable.
Q: I made some faux pearl necklaces for a wedding and the bead shop I went to gave me some nylon coated wire, but never said what it was. Would this have been it? The necklaces have movement and hang nice and doesn't look ridged. I will get this from you if its what I'm looking for, as it's cheaper here!!!! Thanks :o)
A: Yes, it probably was a beading wire like this, it's strong, thin and hangs nicely. It's a really versatile wire for use with crimp beads.
Q: I need some glue for when I make bracelets with the stretch elastic. After I have placed a knot in it I would like to put a blob of glue to keep it fastened, would this be the right glue? Thanks for you help in this matter look forward to hearing from you.
A: Yes, the superglue would be perfect for sealing a knot in stretchy elastic. Just make a couple of tight knots and then put a dab of glue on them, when it's dry the knot will be sealed.
Q: I need some glue to hold a sliver plated end bead on to the end of memory wire. Would this be ok and is the tip quite small so it can be applied accurately? Many thanks
A: I'd suggest the epoxy glue www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018 for sticking metal to metal, superglue may work but you don't get as long lasting a bond. The epoxy glue comes in two parts so you need to mix it together, all you need is a matchstick and some patience.
Q: I notice this bead is not in your latest printed catalogue. Does this mean you intend to discontinue it?
A: Not entirely, we are planning to keep the hearts for some time but the catalogue should only include our core range, which will be unchanged for a long time to come.
Q: I want a secure storage box to keep all my beads and findings. Would you recommend this box or do you sell an alternative? Thank you.
A: Yes, sure this box is great for little findings and beads. It may be difficult to tip out since it only has one lid, rather than separate tops for each compartment, meaning you'd have to pick the beads out separately each time. These are the only bead storage boxes we have but there are lots of different solutions out there.
Q: I want to have 3 x 3mm leather thongs together as a necklace. Would these ribbon crimps be suitable to hold these and should i glue them in with a glue gun, or just fold the crimp over.
A: Three lots of 3mm leather would be a bit too much of a squeeze I think. I've tried them with 3 strands of our medium leather which is 1.5mm and that looks OK and holds securely. For multiple strands of such thick leather you could try fashioning your own end by wrapping some 0.6mm metal based wire (like the ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71) tightly around and around the thread, then sculpting a loop. You can even hammer this wire flat once it's wrapped around for extra strength.
Q: I want to know if I need to use one crimp end cap per strand (I'm making a necklace with three strands of wire)?
A: Yes, these crimp ends will only fit one strand of wire so you will need to have one for each strand of your necklace.
Q: I want to make some wire shapes, spirals etc and my own clasps and wanted some advice on what gauge I should use?
A: 0.6 or 0.8mm wire will be your best bet, depending on the finish required. Gently hammering wire shapes once made will help to retain their form.
Q: I want to make wine glass ring charms should I be using memory wire ring, I'm not sure if 20 mm is too large?
A: The memory wire would work just fine as it holds its shape - you can adjust it too, with pliers, if the loops are too big, and add rocailles to pad it out.
Q: I want to sew these onto felt - if I use a fine needle and thread, would this be possible? I've been using some similar ones but can't judge the size of these. Thank you
A: Yes, I think that would be possible, it might depend on how big the eye of your needle is, the holes are 0.6mm wide, so as long as your needle and thread will fit through there shouldn't be a problem.
Q: I was just wondering what different colours there are in this mix? And how many of each colour do you get? Thanks, Kim
A: There are 8 different colours in the range but as the mix is completely random you may not get equal quantities of each colour in a bag. These items are packaged with barcodes for re-sale. For our regular more cost-effective wholesale bags of glass hearts go to www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Heart/bo79
Q: I would like to have the seascape project sheet - and i am buying all the items just in different colour - how do i get the project sheet please?!
A: Please make a note in the comments section at checkout and we'll add a free copy to your order.
Q: I would like to know how big is the inside hole of the wooden 10mm beads
A: The hole is approximately 3.8mm.
Q: I would like to know what you use the spectacle ends for in jewellery, I am new to this and have never seen this item. I am very interested in knowing what this is.
A: Spectacle ends are used to attach spectacles to a hand crafted cord. You can push the adjustable part tight to your glasses and you have a loop to which you can easily attach cord.
Q: I would like to make a sweetie style bracelet can you tell me if any of your jump rings silver, silver plated or gold plated would be suitable for this?
A: I don't see why not! You could probably use any of them but I would have thought our 6mm sterling silver would work best in terms of durability, or if you wanted to use plated metal, the 7mm size would probably be most appropriate.
Q: i would like to make stretchy glass bead bracelets do you have to knot the elastic or are you able to crimp it to secure beads
A: Our crimps wouldn't fit on the elastic, you can get them in larger sizes but knotting is generally easier and more secure.
Q: I would like to make wine glass charms as table name places for my wedding. What wire would be suitable to attach silver letter charms to for this purpose?
A: I would recommend the 0.4mm or the 0.6mm which are really easy to bend and shape. If you need something a bit more substantial for sculpting you could try the 0.8mm.
Q: I'd like to make some stud earrings but i've realised that all the beads available have holes in and would not be suitable. Is there any way around this?
A: You could look elsewhere to buy cabochons (flat backed domes without holes for sticking onto things) or try making your own designs from Fimo. I'm afraid we don't stock anything really suitable, but you may be able to find a supplier on our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: I'm after quite a strong clasp, are these the strongest you do?
A: No, the strongest magnetic clasps we sell are these little ones - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Magnetic-clasps-6x5mm/bo871 However all magnetic clasps are designed that they can be pulled apart if a necklace is tugged on, so the magnetic clasps we sell are not the strongest in our range.
Q: I'm going to be doing my first jewellery party for children soon where I aim to teach them how to make a bracelet (elasticated) and I was thinking of a necklace too. The age is 7-8 years old which threading product do you think would be best for this age range?
A: If you are wanting to use elastic then I would recommend our cotton covered elastic over the elasticity for children - it's thicker, stronger, the knots hold well and it comes in a range of fun colours - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-elastic/bo903 If you don't need it to stretch then the waxed cord has similar properties and also comes in a wide range of colours (the cotton thong is very similar but the colours of the waxed cord would probably be more appealing to children).
Q: I'm looking for a bronze coloured version of this ring. Do you do one please?
A: I'm sorry, we only have the one finish in this ring, but you might be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: I'm looking for flat-backed, dome-fronted, foil/metal-bound beads with a top loop suitable for earrings. Is that what these are like?
A: Yes, that's a great description of them, the dome-fronted flat-backed glass is suspended like a pebble in its wire mount.
Q: I'm really looking for numbers rather than letters, do you know if and where I can get such a thing in particular for the commemorated birthdays e.g. 18, 21, 40 etc
A: We do get quite a few queries about number beads but unfortunately we don't have any plans to stock them at the present time. You may be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: I've had some clasps (not from you!) recently where the magnet has pulled out of it's casing. Are these held in really securely?
A: I haven't had any complaints about magnets coming out of their casing, so as far as I'm aware they are pretty secure!
Q: I've purchased product LRSGP. I found very hard to squeeze it. It is very hard. What pliers should I use? Thank you.
A: Any half round/flat nosed pliers should be able to do it, you only need to squeeze the last loop closed, you don't have to flatten the whole thing.
Q: I've recently bought some clear elasticity with the intention of making some bracelets - I thought I could just tie a knot to finish the bracelet, but they just slip out? How should I finish bracelets using the thick elasticity? Thanks
A: If you give the elasticity a few tight, neat knots then add a dab of superglue or clear nail varnish that will seal the knot and prevent it from slipping.
Q: I've recently bought some Swarovski heart pendants which I would like to make in to earrings. Do you think if I thread the pendant on to the kidney wire this would work? Thanks for your time.
A: Well, the hearts don't really hang right on just the kidney wires so I'd recommend a bail and loop www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Bail-loop/bo808 to go through the hole at the top of the heart and then hang from the kidney wire.
Q: if I bought 5 or more packs in various colours would I still get a discount?
A: Yes, if you go to the bottom of the page and click on 'buy a custom mix' www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Fancy-glass-beads-mix/bc1027 then you can choose whichever colours you like for the 500g price.
Q: If I was to use beads, what would I thread them on and how would I attach them. Would 6mm iridescent beads or plastic pony beads work?
A: Sure, plastic ponies or any other plastic beads are ideal, as they are hard-wearing and light-weight. You could try threading beads so onto a headpin: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/headpins-eyepins/c62 and then twisting the loop around the metal ring on the clip. Then you would have to make sure that the last bead on the end of the pin is small enough to sit on the pin head but big enough to keep the pony bead on the pin (as the pony beads have quite large 3mm holes).
Q: If using the ribbon crimp, how do you recommend attaching this to a clasp? Is it by jump ring? I like the Toggle clasp but this seems a bit fussy using all the combinations?
A: Yes, as the ribbon clasps have a closed loop you would need something to join them to any clasp which also has a closed loop (like the toggles), a jump ring is perfect for this.
Q: If you buy a mix of 20, do you get 5 of each colour please?
A: A multi mix is random, so you should get all the colours or designs but not necessarily in equal quantities. If you wanted exact numbers of each colour you could order a custom mix and specify exactly what you want.
Q: In order to make a bracelet with three strands what size beads would you use with these spacers so that the strands of beads sit straight and didn't bulge out in between the spacers?
A: The holes are about 7mm apart, so I tested them with 3 strands of 8mm beads, they look fine. Anything under 8mm would work.
Q: Is 12mm the overall length of these clasps, please?
A: 12mm is the length of the clasp without taking into account the loops on either end, if you add them in it's 17mm long.
Q: Is 4mm the inner diameter measurement?
A: 4mm is the diameter from the outer edges.
Q: Is a size 8 seed bead larger or smaller than a size 11 please?
A: Size 8 seed beads are larger than size 11. You will find there are approximately 10-12 size 8 beads and approximately 18-20 size 11 beads to the inch.
Q: is beadalon the same sort of thing as tigertail please?
A: They're different types of a similar product (beading wire). Our tiger tail is only currently available in a silver coloured finish but we have a range of Beadalon colours.
Q: Is Indicolite available in the Swarovski bicone 4mm and 6mm ?
A: All the colours that we stock are listed I'm afraid, you might be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Is is elasticated?
A: No, try our Elasticity at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/elastic-elasticity/c69
Q: Is it easy to knot with it or would it be better off crimped?
A: It's really easy to knot, just pull a couple of tight knots and put a dab of superglue or clear nail varnish on the knot to seal it. Crimps will wear through the thread as they have sharp edges.
Q: Is it possible to buy just the star made of wire in bulk?
A: None of the items in this mix are made from wire, they are all metallised plastic. But if you mean the spiral star, it can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Star-spiral/bo345 or the plain star can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/-star-loop/bo1978
Q: Is it possible to use these rings for chain mail? Thank you, Ann Murray
A: Yes it is.
Q: Is it the same thing as fishing line?
A: Yes that's right.
Q: Is it waxed, is it Irish and is it colourfast? Many thanks!
A: No the linen thread is not waxed but it's still quite soft, I don't know which country the linen comes from I'm afraid but according to our supplier it's machine washable up to 60 degrees.
Q: Is Nylon ok for beading and how can I finish my item off?
A: Yes, Nylon is fine for beading. You can either knot your nylon to finish or trap each end in a calotte www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Calotte/bo788 Just make a small knot and then place the knot within the bowl of the calotte, squash it closed with pliers and you have a neat hook end to which you can attach a clasp.
Q: Is the amethyst bead similar in colour to the cadburys wrapper?
A: It's similar but not the same, this bead has more blue tones than the Cadbury's wrapper shade of purple.
Q: Is the amethyst coloured bead similar to the purple on the cadbury wrappers? Which of the beads in your entire range are the closest to the purple of the cadbury wrappers - I have some earrings for which I would like to make a matching necklace and bracelets
A: No, this shade of amethyst is a paler, more pinky shade of purple than the Cadbury's wrapper. I don't think we really have any glass beads in the shade you're looking for, our Swarovski crystals in Tanzanite are probably the closest, but we do have some wooden beads which are just about spot on, our 15mm WDB in deep purple which can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Matt-round-15mm/bo1662 and the smaller sizes in the sale, 4mm here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Matt-round-4mm/bo1661 and 6mm here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Matt-round-6mm/bo1660
Q: Is the base of the black box also black or is it white as shown in your ad in 'Making Jewellery'? Is this the same for all sizes of black boxes.
Many thanks.
A: The base of boxes B and C is white, boxes A and D have a black base.
Q: Is the bead drilled all the way through?
thank you Debbie
A: Yes, the 2mm hole is drilled right the way through these beads.
Q: Is the beadalon 7 wire nice and flexible for twisting round beads as well as being suitable for crimping? I think it is great to be able to ask questions on a website like yours and I am sure I will have some more questions in the near future. I think this facility is jolly good.
A: You can loop it around beads but it won't hold the shape without crimping, Beadalon wire always wants to hang and drape around things, if you want a more sculptural wire you'll have to use a metal based wire like the ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71
Q: Is the box for a necklace and is it lined with white flock or cotton, measurements 90x65mm.
A: Yes, you can fit a slim necklace (perhaps not with really chunky beads) in these cotton wadding lined boxes.
Q: Is the colour shown on screen the colour the hemp comes in? This darker colour is what I am looking for rather than the natural hemp. Thanks, Lara
A: Yes, the pictures of the hemp are taken from our stock so they are a good representation of what we have. As the hemp is a natural hand made product it varies in colour from batch to batch. Currently the colour of the thin hemp we have is a good match for this picture.
Q: Is the diameter or the circumference 25mm?
A: The diameter is 25mm.
Q: Is the front of this flat? I want to glue polymer clay to them.
A: There is a hook on the front to attach pendants or beads to, it's not completely flat.
Q: Is the hole as a pendant or as a bead?
A: These are beads with the hole running through the square. The holes in these beads are about 1mm wide.
Q: Is the hole big enough for medium sized leather thong?
A: These beads are handmade so the hole sizes vary slightly, as does the thickness of leather thong so this is a tricky one to answer accurately I'm afraid! With a bit of persuasion some will fit but a finer cord would be easier. Many beads such as these are made on rods and have a little chalky residue from them inside their holes. This can be removed by pushing something like a headpin through, enlarging the holes a little.
Q: is the hole big enough to thread 1mm waxed cord through
A: No sorry, the holes are fairly small so you'll need to use thread rather than cord.
Q: Is the hole big enough to use with 1mm cord? If not, how can I tell which beads are suitable for corded designs? Thanks
A: The beads have roughly a 1mm wide hole, since they are handmade they can vary in dimensions slightly. I think they would be suitable for corded designs but you might have to use a thinner cord to make sure it will fit through all the beads. You could try our thin silk www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-thin/bo895 which looks really nice knotted.
Q: Is the hole in these large enough for use with 2mm rattail cord?
A: I have just tested it and the thread fits the hole just fine! However it does take a bit of perseverance to get the thread through as the end frays a little. If you have problems you could always dip the end of the thread in a little glue and let it harden into a point, I find that can help.
Q: Is the hole running from side to side or top to bottom?
A: The hole runs from top to bottom.
Q: Is the hole size 3mm or more to fit on pandora style braclets?
A: Sorry, the holes are only about 1.5mm wide, so they will only fit in beading wire or thin thread like silk.
Q: Is the hole through the length of the bead?
A: Yes, the hole runs through the length of the bead, from top to tail and it's about 2mm wide.
Q: Is the measurement of 2mm taken parallel to the hole, or does it go across it?
A: The 2mm measurement is the diameter of the crimp, straight across the middle.
Q: Is the metal stainless steel?
A: They are made of steel and plated to a bright finish. They're corrosion and tarnish-resistant.
Q: Is the middle piece plastic or rubber. Have had difficulty in sourcing ends that do not slip on slim glasses.
A: The main black piece is rubber with a little transparent plastic slider in the middle. The rubber means they grip quite well.
Q: Is the second "buy" line always the wholesale price? As a retail buyer if i wanted to buy for, example 5 packs of silk thread would i have to buy 5 x £1.75 or the £6.95 per 5 packs.
A: Well, it's not always the case that the second line is the wholesale, some of our items, especially sale items, aren't available in retail quantities at all. All of our customers can order in both wholesale and retail quantities, you don't have to be a big business to buy in wholesale quantities. Everyone's entitled to the same low prices including our wholesale discount of 10% off if you buy 5 or more of the same wholesale item. You can buy as little or as much as you like.
Q: Is the size = diameter or radius?
A: These spacers are 2.4mm in diameter.
Q: Is the size detail given the actual size of the bead or the hole? Thanks
A: The size given is the diameter of the whole bead.
Q: Is the size of the bags measured by the space inside or the seal to the bottom?
A: The measurement given is the size of bag below the seal, they can vary a bit so the sizes are approximate.
Q: Is there a hole in this bead?
A: Yes, all of our beads have holes in them.
Q: Is there a threading hole or it it just the big one in the middle?
A: Just the large hole in the middle, good for looping cord through to knot the pendant in place.
Q: Is there any way I could get a 100g mix of random colours of any of the glass mixes?
A: I'm afraid we don't sell a mix in the high quality glass mixes, but you can specify your own custom mix of 5 x 100g bags, that makes mixing the mixes cheaper.
Q: Is there wood grain on any of the beads?
A: Yes, you can see the wood grain on the beads close-up but they are polished so if you want to paint or decorate them the grain shouldn't show.
Q: Is this 19 strand wire recommended for heavier beads, for example 25mm glass ones, or is the 7 strand just as good?
A: Yes, I'd recommend the 19 strand wire for heavier beads, particularly big glass and metal beads, it's a lot more sturdy, having said that there aren't a lot of jobs that the 7 strand wouldn't be up to.
Q: Is this as strong as beadalon or tigertail 7 strand? I've used coloured wire before but it never seemed that strong and these colours are fab.
A: It's about as strong, but we know for sure that the Beadalon and tiger tail have 7 strands whereas we aren't sure how many the plastic coated wire has. It's stronger than the 3 strand tiger tail for sure.
Q: Is this bead flat (pendant) or ball shaped, also how big is the threading hole? Thank you!
A: It's a round ball shaped bead, the hole is 4mm wide.
Q: Is this beadalon suitable as a general purpose wire as I only make jewellery for my personal use and don't want to buy lots of different kinds. Can you recommend another general purpose wire if the Beadalon is not suitable? Many thanks.
A: This is a really great beading wire, I think that it is the best standard beading wire on the market, it's great for any wire work that involves crimping.
Q: Is this book for beginners or for more complicated beading?
A: The book is mainly for beginners, and while it doesn't specify an age range all the pictures inside are of children and young teenagers, so it would probably be best for young beaders. Most of the designs involve rocailles and it's a handy book for learning simple stringing and rocaille weaving techniques.
Q: Is this chain suitable for hanging light objects with?
A: Yes, it's relatively strong, you can't snap it, even if you yank it really hard!
Q: Is this chain suitable for making necklaces where 1/2 the necklace is bead & using a callotte & jump ring the rest is chain? Hope this makes sense.
A: Well you can only really get a 4mm jump ring inside the links (as they're quite tiny) and a 4mm jump ring is not necessarily the strongest linking device. If you wanted to use the chain as part of a necklace that should work, but I'd recommend a thicker chain like the light chain www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Light-chain-SP/bo828 and check out our projects page at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/projects.php for ideas on how to incorporate chain into your jewellery.
Q: Is this choker already made up (sorry but I'm new to all this)? Or is it a kit? Thank you.
A: Yes, the chokers are all fully assembled already with a jump ring in the middle for you to hang pendants from.
Q: Is this cotton cord organic?
A: Yes, that's right, according to the manufacturer all the waxed Cotton cords (WXC) are made from Certified Organic Cotton only.
Q: Is this glue easy to use? I've tried a two part glue which is incredibly fiddly and takes so long to get right. What is involved in using this product? Thank you! :)
A: It's quite easy to use all you need is a clean surface and something to stir it with, like a matchstick. I've used it myself and I think the best tip is to mix a small bit at a time.
Q: is this glue safe to use for earrings? Also do you sell the the rings for fingers that can be decorated?
A: Yes, it is and it's great for sticking two different materials together, e.g. metal to plastic. You can find our finger rings with flat pads at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Finger-ring-12mm-pad/bo864 and our rings with loops at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Finger-ring-10-loop/bo1504
Q: is this glue suitable for sticking plastic buttons onto ear ring stud flats?
A: It would be better to use the two-part epoxy resin for sticking different materials (like plastic to metal) together www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018
Q: Is this item low nickel?
A: Yes, it conforms to the EU Nickel Directives' definition of 'low nickel'. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must not release nickel at a rate exceeding 0.5 micro grams to per square centimetre per week for a period of at least two years of normal use.
Q: Is this item nickel free?
A: Our jewellery findings conform to the EU nickel directives definition of low nickel. To be described as low nickel products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin must release nickel at a rate of less than 0.2 µg/cm2/week
You can find lots of details about the EU nickel regulations at: www.thelaboratory.co.uk/nickel.html and we produce our own nickel information leaflet that you can request if you'd like to read it.
Q: Is this just a bead with a hole for a hair grip? I need a quantity of beads for a project which will just use beads as a counting tool. Would these we OK? They are nice and big.
A: They actually open out, like a hinge and have little teeth inside the bead which grip them to the hair. If you need just nice big colourful beads with big holes I'd suggest the plastic barrels www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/barrel-shaped-plastic-pony-beads/c149
Q: Is this just one coil? And is there space for you to curl the ends over?
A: Yes, if you buy this as a retail quantity it is one coil but it does have plenty of extra for you to finish off the ends.
Q: Is this like a bead 'cone' where you insert several strands into the cone to hide the ends of the strand?
A: Yes, that's the idea, they can be used to neaten up a multi-stranded necklace.
Q: Is this like a key ring split ring?
A: It's exactly like a key ring split ring, just without the keyring part and chain.
Q: Is this material elastic, or the plastic stretchy kind?
A: This thread is cotton covered elastic. We also stock the plastic stretchy kind here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=elasticity
Q: Is this product Fimo Soft or Fimo Classic, as there is a huge difference between the two products?
A: All our Fimo is Fimo soft, except the glittery, metallic ones which are Fimo effects.
Q: Is this product good to use when making an endless pearl necklace (i.e. no clasp)?
A: Sure, it's easy to thread and work with. If your pearls are heavy though you might want to try a stronger thread like our silk www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-thin/bo895
Q: is this product okay for earrings?? thanks
A: They're intended as a ring box but would still be suitable for earrings of the right size.
Q: Is this product strong enough for bracelets made of glass beads?
A: It's quite strong but it really depends how heavy the beads are that you'll be using. The elastic might not stay as taut as it had been in the beginning if you make a heavy bracelet.
Q: Is this product suitable for making a necklace with small glass beads that I want to have a 'floating' effect?
A: Yes it is. You will need some crimp beads (CR) to create a floating necklace www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789. You can find some inspiration and tips on how to make a multi-stranded floating necklace at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/vintage-style-necklace/12
Q: Is this strong enough to have a pendant or one of your Flatties or would the beadalon 19 be better? I've threaded a necklace with this wire with a flattie and don't want it to break! Thanks!
A: The 7 strand Beadalon should be absolutely fine.
Q: Is this strong enough to use with large amethyst beads?
A: All beading wires are very strong but if you're unsure you could try doubling the tiger tail.
Q: Is this suitable for a floating necklace in place of tiger tail?
A: Yes, it works in the same way as tiger tail.
Q: Is this suitable for bracelets?
A: Yes, it's perfectly suited to making bracelets. If you give the elasticity a few tight, neat knots then add a dab of superglue or clear nail varnish that will seal the knot and prevent it from slipping.
Q: Is this suitable for wrapping around tumbled stone to make pendants?
A: Yes, the thinner the wire the easier it is to work with, the 0.4mm can be easily bent around stones with your fingers and twisted into loops to make pendants.
Q: is this the best glue to stick a brooch bar to fabric? Would copydex be better?
A: Epoxy would work fine on thick, sturdy fabrics like felt. However on anything thinner it may show through. You'd be best checking in a fabric shop for the kind of glue they would recommend.
Q: Is this the best product to use to make young children's bracelets? Which beading wire or leather would be best for small beads in necklace and bracelet making (beads will be mixed plastic and wood with some holes smaller than 1mm)?
A: Yes, the thick elasticity is perfect to make bracelets for children, just make sure the knot is pulled tight and sealed with clear nail varnish or superglue if necessary. I'd suggest leather or cotton rather than wire for kids' jewellery as wire won't snap and we don't want the children to garrotte themselves if they get caught on something. Try the thin leather at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907 which comes in a range of cheery colours.
Q: Is this the correct adhesive to stick cabochons onto jewellery?if not, what is? Also what it the correct way to apply them?
A: Yes, the epoxy glue is great to stick two different materials together like plastic, or glass to metal. Apply it to the two surfaces, then press them together. You should be able to handle it after 15 minutes and it should be properly dry in an hour.
Q: Is this the same thing as Epoxy resin? And if so can it be used to make items such as pendants etc?
A: It's basically the same as a two-part epoxy resin, however I'd have thought it would be tricky to cast with it as it's very viscous and would be hard to pour into a mould.
Q: Is this the thinnest cord you sell? I'm having problems threading small beads onto it. Thanks, Kim from Lincoln
A: No, the thinnest cord we have would be the waxed thread at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-thin/bo1014 or we have thin silk at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-thin/bo895 or perhaps the linen thread might be suitable at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Linen-thread/bo894
Q: Is this the thread which is contained in your bracelet making kits? Not sure whether it will be the thin or the thick. Thanks
A: It's actually the thin waxed thread (WXN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-thin/bo1014 that is used in the construction kits that you can find at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-kit/bo1906
Q: Is this wire made from copper? I'm trying to find a non-copper, non-steel wire to make jewellery for someone who is allergic to these metals. If this one is copper or steel, could you please suggest an alternative? I'm looking for approx 0.2 - 0.3mm diameter wire. Thanks, Caroline.
A: The coloured wire and some of our plated wires are copper based. We do have some brass wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-wire/bo878 which doesn't have any copper in it.
Q: Is this wire that I would need for wire wrapping? Also what type of wire would I need to make jump rings please?
A: You could use this wire for wrapping around beads, it's thin and strong, we tend to use it for intricate work with rocailles. You might find our silver plated wire: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-wire/bo914 looks more attractive though, the finer wires, especially 0.4mm, would be great for wire wrapping. These metal based wires are also excellent for making your own jump rings (0.6mm or 0.8mm would be best).
Q: It would be handy if you could specify hole width of beads (in order to match this bangle) :) El
A: Yes, we're trying to go through all of our beads and add the hole sizes bit by bit (a mammoth task!), all the pandora style beads with the silver plated metal lined holes will fit on the wire bangle.
Q: Just want to know how this crimp cover works. Do you simply use pliers and close it over the crimp bead?
A: Yes, just slip the cover over your crimp and squeeze it shut with pliers.
Q: On average, how many beads do you get in a 100g packet?
A: I'm afraid since there's such a mixture of different sizes and shapes of glass beads in these mixes there's no way of telling how many beads you might get in a 100g bag, suffice to say it should be enough to string a long necklace.
Q: on what cases should we use memory wire cutters? And what is the difference between it and other cutters?
A: Memory wire can be tricky to cut with normal cutters as it's quite solid, the memory wire cutters are more robust and so won't be damaged by the job!
Q: Other colours?
A: You can see all the colours that we have in the nymo style thread at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Nymo-D/bo923 and we also have some other similar loomthread at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Super-lon-D/bo1173
Q: Please can you let me know how long a piece of beading it is possible to make with the loom ?
A: Because of the way the beadloom works you can make an indefinitely long piece of beading. You can keep on winding the threads along the loom to make a massive piece if you want.
Q: Please can you tell me exactly how and what these are used for?
A: They are just a variety of spacer, findings that can be used to join sections of a necklace or other jewellery together. Items can be attached to the loops on this spacer using jump rings.
Q: Please can you tell me how big the hole is in these beads and also in the 10mm size of the same design.
A: The holes in these beads vary from 2mm-3mm, since they are handmade. The 10mm ones have holes roughly 3mm wide.
Q: Please can you tell me how long these extension chains are? Thanks.
A: They're 55mm long (that's not including the clasp).
Q: Please can you tell me if these are strong enough for heavy gemstone necklaces? Thanks
A: Yes, they should be, they are really solid and the way they fit together means there's no mechanism to get strained or broken over time.
Q: Please can you tell me the diameter size of the hole in the middle of the 15mm bead? Do you sell a 20mm bead?
A: The holes in these beads are about 2.2mm wide. We do sell 20mm beads but they are uncoloured and unvarnished, you can find them at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Unvarnished-round-20mm/bo698
Q: please can you tell me the size of the hole in this bead?
A: The holes are 1mm wide.
Q: Please can you tell me what gauge these are? I am looking to do Chainmaille, thank you, Jean
A: They are 0.7mm thick, which is 22 gauge, I think. Sometimes the batches that we have differ slightly in thickness though.
Q: Please can you tell me what size hole these beads have?
A: The holes in these beads are 2.5mm wide.
Q: Please can you tell me whether the 17mm size is from top to bottom or from side to side?
A: The measurement is through the hole, so from top to bottom in this case. They are roughly the same measurement from side to side, but vary a little.
Q: Please can you tell us how thick these are?
A: The thick leather thongs LTK are 2mm, the medium LTM are 1.5mm and the thin LTN are 1mm wide. As these are natural products they can vary in thickness.
Q: Please could you advise me if the thong is square or round section and how thick is the diameter please? Regards Linda.
A: The leather thongs have a round section and follow a pattern: thin (LTN) is 1mm, medium (LTM) is 1.5mm and thick (LTK) is 2mm. These dimensions can vary because it is a handmade product, they tend to be a bit thinner, but that all depends on the batch. These bags are made up of various off cuts and you will get various different thicknesses and colours mixed together.
Q: Please could you advise the diameter of the 3 strand and 7 strand tiger tail?
A: Yes I can! The 7 strand tiger tail has a diameter of .018" and the 3 strand is .012"
Q: please could you tell me if these beads/pendants are nickel free? many thanks
A: Our supplier has told us that these conform to the current regulations but we haven't had them tested. All our findings are tested as they are intended to come into contact with the skin. They must comply to the EU Nickel regulations' definition of 'low nickel'.
Q: please could you tell me if these hearts have a hole in for bead wire
many thanks
A: Yes, they have a 1mm hole running from top to bottom.
Q: please could you tell me if you sell spacer beads for pandora style bracelets thanking you in advance Lisa
A: Our range of brass beads at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/metal-spacer-beads/c90 might be suitable, they're available in a gold or silver plated finish.
Q: Please could you tell me the bore size?
A: The holes are about 0.5mm wide.
Q: Please could you tell me what type of Wood are these?
A: They are made of common European maple and beech wood and conform to the necessary legislation, coming from sustainable sources.
Q: Please: how are the ends finished, when beads are added, or what clasps are recommended
A: Use round nosed pliers to loop the ends, a clasp isn't always necessary but a hook or screw clasp can be easily attached if desired.
Q: Really new to this and would like to start to make jewellery with my daughters! Do these kits come with the earing clips for unpierced ears? (sorry don't know the correct wording for them) many thanks Jo Dart x
A: No, I'm afraid you get some long ballwire fish hooks that are for pierced ears but no earclips for unpierced ears, we do have some at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Earclip-2/bo762 that you could add to your order to try them out.
Q: Roughly how many beads are would there be in 100g?
A: I'm afraid it's impossible to give even a rough guess, there are such a mix of different size and shape beads that each bag is different. A 100g bag would definitely be enough to make a couple of necklaces or several bracelets.
Q: Should the cufflink be sloping up or sloping down i.e.
is -/ correct or should it be - (The top being as seen)
Thanks you in anticipation
A: I'm told that either way around will work perfectly well, however for more of the design to be seen the cufflink should slope away from the button hole.
Q: Silly question, I know. But I bought the heavy hook sprung because I saw a reference to them on here for a project. However, I can not remember what I was going to use them for. What would I actually use them for, as I can not remember. Many thanks, confused budding jewellery maker.
A: The heavy hooks are generally used as necklace clasps. They are often used in conjunction with the round leather crimps - one crimp on each end of the leather and the hook used to attach one end to the other.
Q: Silver beads - is the hole large enough for 2mm leather thong? if not do you have any silver beads large enough?
A: I'm afraid the 5mm pressed rounds won't fit, but the 6.5mm ones will - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silver-plated-round-6-5mm/bo3115 and we have a few other styles of plain silver bead that fit on the 2mm cord here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-barrel-4x5mm/bo3117 and here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-barrel-5x6mm/bo3118 and several styles of our chunkier brass spacer beads like these - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-lantern-7x6mm/bo3120 and these - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Brass-ridge-6mm/bo3119
Q: Snipper: what is it?
A: Snippers are sharp tools designed for snipping threads rather than general cutting.
Q: sorry back again, what's the difference between bugles A & B ?
A: Our bugles are all from the same manufacturer but some of the colours are more expensive to produce than others, groups A and B are therefore priced differently but are otherwise the same.
Q: the 15 or so pendants for £1.95 are they the same shape or is it just a random mix?
A: The 'random shell shapes mix' is a random mix of various shapes of shell pendants, like the picture it will include different colours, shapes and sizes of pendant.
Q: the information says the beads are 9mm is this in width or length ?
A: They are 9mm in length (not including the loops) each letter is a slightly different width.
Q: What are the beads in the beginners pack made of? glass, clay etc. I dont know what to say when someone asks me.
A: If you go to the 'view full range' page www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Beginners-pack/bo3072 then you'll see a list of all the contents, with links to all the items. You'll also get a list of contents in each beginners' pack. Most of the beads included in the beginners' packs are glass beads.
Q: What are the hole sizes of your horn and bone beads please. I like them all and wish to string them onto 1.5mm leather or 2mm leather thong. Many thanks, Ros
A: They are generally 2.5mm wide but can vary because they are handmade.
Q: What are the most appropriate times to use Nymo B and Nymo D?
A: You can use Nymo for all sorts of threading, especially with small, light beads like seed beads. Check out our projects page for some intricate designs like our St. Petersburg necklace: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/st-petersburg-necklace/24
Q: What are these for please?
A: They combine the functions of flat and round nosed pliers and cutters in one handy tool. You can squash, twist and cut with them.
Q: What brand are the Japanese rocailles size 11 that you stock? Many Thanks
A: All the Japanese rocailles are from Matsuno (except for the metallic Japanese rocailles).
Q: What colour is frost?
A: Frost is basically white but not a blinding, brilliant white, a bit of a subdued white.
Q: What colour is the insert?
A: These boxes have white cottony wadding inside.
Q: What colour options are available for these bead boxes? Is only the blue remaining?
A: Yes, unfortunately we only have the blue left.
Q: What colours are in the multi mix?
A: A multi mix is a mix that we make up with all the colours currently in stock in the range.
Q: What crimps do I use for soft flex medium?
A: You should be able to use any crimps on the Soft Flex, even the thickest Soft Flex will still fit through our crimps: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: What do you do with these clips? Do you have to decorate them?
A: The thread part goes through the fixture on a phone and then loops over enabling you to hang charms and pendants from the metal ring.
Q: What do you mean by end of line?
A: End of line items are things we will not be getting into stock again, they aren't reduced in price like the sale beads but we will be discontinuing them once our stock has sold out.
Q: What does 3''' mean please?
A: 3''' is a special seed bead notation, they are all 5mm long.
Q: What does AB mean?
A: AB stands for aurora borealis (like the northern lights), which is a type of iridescent finish, we think it makes them shimmer like the moon, so we've added the moon part to the description.
Q: what does STS stand for? Thanks!
A: STS is our own shorthand jargon for sterling silver.
Q: What elastic would I need for 6mm size beads? To make a bracelet. Thanks x
A: You could try making little bracelets out of our elasticity which comes in a transparent finish and is easy to thread (it's kind of like stretchy nylon). www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Elasticity-thin-25m/bo1631 Just give it a couple of tight knots and a dab of superglue or clear nail varnish on the knot to seal it.
Q: What glue would you use to stick these bars to material such as felt?
A: I'd recommend epoxy glue for sticking two different materials to each other (i.e. metal to felt): www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018
Q: What is Fimo? What do you do with it?
A: Fimo is a versatile modelling clay that you can bake in the oven at home. It's fun for kids. You can make all sorts of little sculptures or even your own beads to use as a part of your jewellery creations. We have a book at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Polymer-Clay-Beaded-Jewellery/bo1857 that gives ideas and projects for your own clay beads.
Q: What is Rat Tail?
A: Rat tail is a 2mm thick, satiny cord.
Q: What is the actual size of the hole?
A: The holes are 3.5mm wide.
Q: What is the bead hole size? Is it large enough for thong doubled through?
A: The holes are quite small, just under 1mm, not large enough for thong at all I'm afraid.
Q: What is the best glue to use when sticking glass to metal? I like to make these beads into stud earrings but sometimes that glue doesn't set well enough.
A: An epoxy two part glue should do the trick, you'll find ours at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018
Q: What is the best method of sticking a cabochon to a cufflink pad please?
A: Your best bet would be to use epoxy glue, which is great for sticking together metal and other materials. We sell epoxy glue here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Epoxy-two-part-glue/bo1018
Q: What is the best size needles to buy for bead threading please. As I do have a needle but am unable to thread my cord through thank you
A: The higher the number the thinner the needle, so size 15 is the thinnest, with the smallest eye and size 10 is larger with a larger eye. All of our needles are intended for use with beading thread so might not be suitable for cord.
Q: what is the best thing to thread these beads on to make a bracelett? thankl you
A: The easiest way to start making bracelets is with Elasticity, it's like a stretchy nylon cord and available in thin or thick, clear or black (all equally suitable but go for thin if using beads with very small holes). Because of the stretch it can simply be tied in a double knot to finish, this dispenses with the need for findings (hooks, clasps etc.) and also makes sizing less of an issue.
Q: What is the best way to make sure the ends of the ribbon do not fray when making a tie necklace?
A: You can very carefully scorch the ends with a lighter. It takes a bit of patience and practise to get it looking neat but the ribbon will just shrivel up at the end and not fray. If you're careful you can get a nice straight finish!
Q: What is the best way to tie metallic elastic, knot or use crimps, or any other ideas?
A: The best way would be to give it a few tight knots. You could always knot the elastic and crimp onto the knot because crimping straight onto the elastic would only work for a short time until the elastic got pulled and sneaked out of the crimp (it's tricky little thread!).
Q: What is the bit that's hanging off of the bottom and can it be removed? Thanks
A: The bolt ring tag is just a something that you can use to clip the clasp onto, you don't have to use it you could use a jump ring, split ring or a simple loop of wire instead for the clasp to hook onto.
Q: What is the colour on the other side of the silver star beads?
A: Quite difficult to describe! The glass is a very dark grey with an iridescent blue/purple sheen.
Q: What is the diameter of the hole in the centre please?
A: The hole is approximately 3.5mm.
Q: what is the diameter of the hole please?
A: They vary a little as the beads are handmade but are approximately 2.5mm.
Q: What is the diameter of the hole please?
A: The holes are about 0.6mm wide.
Q: What is the diameter of the pad please? Phew! I'm relieved at finding this site l will place an order ASAP as you seem to have everything I am interested in!
A: The cufflink pad is 13mm in diameter.
Q: What is the diameter/guage of the wire?
A: The 8mm jump rings we have are roughly 1mm thick (sometimes they can vary slightly in thickness)
Q: What is the difference between the value range and the normal range of crimp covers?
A: The crimp covers are the same item but sold in different ways. A wholesale packet (CRC3) costs £3.95 for a bag of 200. They are also available packed for re-sale with branded packaging and barcode - midi packs (MCRC3) come with instructions and cost £11.45 for 10 packets of 26, and the value packs (VCRC3) are without instructions and cost £17.45 for 10 packs of 50. These products are intended for re-sale by retailers. They all come in Beads Unlimited packaging with barcodes. All of the products in this range can also be found in their respective collections as regular wholesale and retail items, the regular range is the most cost effective.
Q: What is the gauge of the wire please?
A: They are 1mm thick which I think corresponds to a gauge of 18.
Q: What is the hole diameter in these beads?
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 2.5mm wide.
Q: what is the hole size ? are they suitable for 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm waxed cords?
A: The holes are approximately 1.5mm but will vary slightly as the beads are handmade.
Q: what is the hole size as I would like to sting them on either 0.5 or 1.0 mm waxed cord
A: The holes are approximately 2mm in diameter.
Q: What is the hole size for these beads please? Kind regards, Ros

Q: What is the hole size on the 7mm beads glass lamp beads compared to the 5mm or are they the same?
A: The hole sizes are about the same, approx. 1mm, though as the beads are handmade it may vary slightly between individual beads.
Q: What is the hole size please
A: The holes are 1mm wide.
Q: What is the hole size?
A: The holes are approximately 1mm in diameter.
Q: What is the hole size?

A: The holes are approximately 1mm in diameter.
Q: What is the internal hole size of this bead please?
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 2mm wide.
Q: What is the real purpose of a bead mat?
A: Bead mats are simply a useful way of stopping your beads from rolling about on a flat surface.
Q: What is the size of the bead hole please?
A: The holes are approximately 1.5mm wide but vary a bit because the beads are hand made.
Q: What is the size of the centre hole please.
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 2mm wide but can vary slightly because they are handmade.
Q: What is the size of the hole for these beads, please?
A: The holes in these beads are roughly 1.75mm wide.
Q: What is the size of the hole in the 6mm dice bead. Also how much does the 6mm and 9mm bead weigh? as I am worried they will be too heavy for what I am making as they are metal. Thank you, Andrea
A: The holes in the 6mm dice are 0.8mm wide. They weigh 0.1g each, the 9mm weigh 0.7g each. They are made of plastic with a metallised finish.
Q: What is the size of the hole in these beads?
A: Just a shade over 2mm.
Q: What is the size of the hole in this bead?
A: The holes in these beads are 3mm wide.
Q: what is the size of the hole in this bead?
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 3mm wide.
Q: What is the size of the hole/loop?
A: The holes for threading are about 3mm wide.
Q: What is the size of the hole?
A: The hole is just under 2mm wide.
Q: what is the size of the opening?
A: The hole size of these beads is approximately 3mm in diameter.
Q: What is the size range of these pendants?
A: The smallest ones are about 10mm across, and the largest about 25mm.
Q: what is the smallest hole size you can use elasticity thin for?
A: The thin Elasticity is 0.5mm, it's probably best to go for beads with a slightly larger hole size though to allow for any variation (particularly with handmade beads).
Q: what is the thickness
A: The thickness is approximately 0.38mm.
Q: What is the width of the actual metal used in the jump rings you sell?
A: Each jump ring differs in the width or gauge of the wire used, the bigger the ring the thicker the metal. These 7mm rings are 1mm thick.
Q: What is the width of the hole? What size bead cap would I require?
A: The holes in these beads are 2mm wide. You could use a plain cup www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Plain-cup-small/bo767 for the bottom or CAPB www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Bead-cap-7mm/bo1816 would be the right size and shape.
Q: What is this product used for? I am looking for something to fasten the end of a wire loop over a clasp. Is that what this product is for?
A: Yes you can loop wire over and use a crimp to secure it, just slide the crimp on to the wire and use crimping pliers to squash it into shape. For an example of how to use crimps you could have a look at this project - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/wire-pearl-necklace/65
Q: What is Thread Heaven?
A: Thread heaven is a special sort of wax for treating your threads. It will make threads easier to work with.
Q: What kind of horn is this?
A: All our horn beads are Indian and absolutely nothing goes to waste there. Our buyers have visited a number of workshops, where various domestic cattle and goat which have passed their useful life are used. Nothing endangered is required or allowed and nothing is reared with the sole intention of use as a horn product.
Q: What length are the chokers please and will the clasp unscrew so that one end will go through a 10mm bead with a smallish hole? Thank you
A: The chokers are 425mm long, it would really depend on the size of the hole as it would need to have a hole 2.5mm wide to thread over the clasp.
Q: What product do you suggest to use with these to create a wonderful pendant?
A: I think it would be best to use them as part of a knotted thong necklace, you can find a video showing you various techniques at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/articles/basic-jewellery-making-techniques/12
Q: what projects is waxed cord best used for
A: It's quite an all-rounder really, it's nice and strong but not great for smaller holes as it can fray during threading.
Q: What size and type of jump ring do I need to mount a heart on one of your ready-made gold chains?
A: A 5mm jump ring (JR5GP) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Jump-ring-5mm-GP/bo1579 will fit nicely onto one of these Swarovski hearts. You can then slip it onto a chain. You won't be able to attach the jump ring through one of the links though, it will have to run freely up and down the chain.
Q: What size are the aluminium beads?
A: Each of the ALJE pendants is a similar size, approx 40mm tall. The ALJE3 oval is about 24mm across and the ALJE2 is about 28mm across its widest part.
Q: What size are the holes in mm's ?
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 2.5mm wide.
Q: What size are the holes in the spiky rubber beads please?
A: The holes in the RUC tubes are approximately 3mm, the hole through the RUB is about 1.5mm and the RUA is approx 1mm.
Q: What size are these beads?
A: These beads measure 6mm.
Q: What size beads are best in the 14mm cages?
A: Beads around 10-12mm should fit the best in these cages.
Q: What size beads shall I buy to use with the leather thong?
A: You can use whatever size beads you like, the thong is quite strong. The important thing is that the hole in the bead will fit on the cord, so you could use the thin thong for beads with holes over 1mm and the thick for beads with a hole of 2mm.
Q: What size cotton thread will fit through the Swarovski beads?
A: The holes are under 1mm so none of our cotton cords will fit through, but you could use a thread like Nymo or Superlon - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/loom-thread/c72 or a thin silk thread - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Silk-thread-thin/bo895
Q: What size crimp beads would you recommend for this plastic coated wire ?
A: We only sell crimps in the one size, which is suitable for wire - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: What size gold spacer bead would go on the end of these head pins without falling off? Thanks
A: You can fit up to a 3mm spacer bead on the headpins before the hole in the bead gets too big for the pin head (so that's 2.4mm or 3mm). You can find all our spacers at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/metal-spacer-beads/c90
Q: What size hole do these have?
A: The holes are about 2-2.5mm wide (they vary slightly because of the manufacturing process).
Q: What size hole do these wooden beads have?
A: The holes in these beads are 3mm wide.
Q: What size hole do they have? Would they thread on elastic?
A: These beads have a 1.5mm hole and will fit on our various coloured elastics www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/elastic-elasticity/c69.
Q: What size holes do these beads have?
A: Since these beads are a mix of shapes you will get a selection with holes ranging from 0.5mm to about 2mm, depending on the shape. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Q: what size is 3''' in mm please?
A: 3''' is a special seed bead notation, they are all 5mm long.
Q: What size is the centre hole?
A: The holes in these beads are 2mm wide.
Q: What size is the hole in the bead?
A: The hole sizes can vary quite a bit as these beads are handmade, between approximately 1-1.5mm.
Q: What size is the hole in the beads?
A: The hole is about 1mm.
Q: What size is the hole in these beads?
A: The holes in these beads are 3mm wide.
Q: What size is the hole on the 25L?
A: The holes are 3mm wide.
Q: What size is the hole on these beads, and the pearl and transparent ones? Thank you
A: All the star ponies in all the various finishes have 3.5mm wide holes, this makes them ideal for children to string.
Q: what size is the hole please/ thank you
A: These vary quite a bit as they're hand made, the holes in our current batch are approximately 1.5mm.
Q: What size is the hole?
A: The holes in these beads are about 1mm wide.
Q: What size of bead is best for the loom?
A: The loom comes with a few packets of size 8 rocailles, though you could use other sizes too. Our rocailles can be found here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/rocaille-beads-aka-seed-beads-bugle-beads/c56
Q: What size of beads would this wire take?
A: Well, it's quite strong, so you could even use heavy glass beads and thin, only 0.5mm, so hole size wouldn't be a problem either.
Q: What size thong/wire fits?
A: The holes in these beads are between 1-1.5mm wide, so you could use our thin leather thong LTN: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907 or you could use any of our beading wires: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/beading-wire/c70 or waxed thread: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-thread-thick/bo1015
Q: What size thong/wire will fit in these?
A: The holes in these beads are 2mm wide, so you could use any of our cotton or leather thongs, even the thickest would fit.
Q: What sized hole do the cotton beads have?
A: The CTAA beads have a hole size of approximately 4mm.
Q: What sort of bead is used with a bead loom? I would like to include some with my order. Many thanks
A: The best beads to use with a beadloom are rocailles (otherwise known as seed beads) which you can find at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/rocaille-beads-aka-seed-beads-bugle-beads/c56
Q: What sort of hole size do these beads have? I'm looking for mixed beads for a 1mm cord/thong project.
A: It's impossible to say really, it's such a mixed bag and some of the beads are tiny. A lot of the beads in a packet should fit onto a 1mm thong, though certainly not all of them.
Q: What thickness is Nymo D?
A: It's super thin, just 0.10mm!
Q: What thickness leather thong will thread through these? Is 1.5mm too thick?
A: The wire loops on the top of these pendants are about 2mm wide, so 1.5mm leather should be fine.
Q: what thread would fit these beads...I've always had trouble with the hole sizes.
A: You could use elasticity www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/elastic-elasticity/c69 for a stretchy thread, nylon www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/nylon/c68 or any of our tigertail and beadalon wires www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/beading-wire/c70 will also fit.
Q: What type and link size chain would match the finish on these pendants?
A: Our silver plated chain is the closest match. Any of the light (http://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Light-chain-SP/bo828), heavy (http://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Heavy-chain-SP/bo826) or trace chain (http://www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Trace-chain-2mm/bo1118) sizes in silver plate should work, it depends exactly what you are doing with it and how you want it to look but the heavy might be a little too chunky, I'd have thought the light would be best.
Q: What type of chain do I need to make beaded zip pulls/bag charms?
A: Probably this light chain is the best as it's quite strong and not too bulky, but you can still get headpins or jump rings through the links.
Q: What weight of bead can this ribbon support?
A: We've tried the organza ribbon with all sorts of beads: glass, metal, ceramic, wood, plastic and haven't had a problem. If you're using a very heavy bead then take extra care with the crimping or knotting as this is likely to be the weakest point. Take a look at our projects page to see organza ribbon used as both a stringing material and a decorative feature www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/projects.php
Q: What wire gauge are the jump rings? Thanks
A: They are about 0.8mm but can vary slightly in thickness depending on the batch.
Q: What wire is the thinnest?
A: The 3 strand is the thinnest of our beading wires, it means there are three strands of steel wire coated with nylon. Then we sell 7 strand and 19 strand (Beadalon), which are a bit tougher as they have more steel strands.
Q: What wood are the beads made of?
A: They are made from common European Maple and Beech wood and conform to the necessary legislation.
Q: What would we do with this?
A: You could use it as a pendant with a simple cord through the middle (check out our video for tips www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/articles/basic-jewellery-making-techniques/12), or take a look at it used in one of our projects www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/summer-of-love-necklace/55
Q: What would you suggest these should be used for? i.e. what weight of necklace would they hold together without coming apart? Hope my question makes sense....regards Tanya
A: Well, they are reasonably strong but you wouldn't want a lot of heavy glass or metal beads strung with it. I haven't ever tested the weight any of the magnetic clasps will carry. I wouldn't suggest them for anything heavier than a floating necklace with beading wire, or with some lightweight beads.
Q: What's the diameter of the hole in the lustred 10x8mm beads and can any of the leather thongs or waxed cords be used with these, please? Alternatively, please could you suggest beads that could be used with the leather and/or waxed cords that you offer. Thanks!
A: The holes in these beads are approximately 1.5mm wide, but can vary because they are handmade. I wouldn't suggest any thread wider than 1mm, which means you could use thin leather (LTN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907, thin cotton (BTN) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Cotton-thong/bo908, or any of our waxed cord: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Waxed-cord/bo1180
Q: What's the difference between .012mm bright, .015mm bright 0.18mm, 19 strand and what's the best for 6mm to 12mm glass pearl beads?
A: The 7 strand beadalon wire has 7 strands of steel wire twisted together and coated in nylon, the 19 strand has 19 strands, so it is even stronger. The strands of steel are so thin that there is no perceptible difference in the wires, it's only a question of strength and cost, both of them are .015'' or 0.38mm wide. 7 strand wire is entirely adequate for most uses, it would be perfect for glass pearl beads, used in conjunction with crimp beads.
Q: when I put the blue memory wire cutters into shopping cart, this description came up with a buy 10 option. Are they the same as these please? If not, do I get a further discount on these, if I buy ten?
A: These are two different types of cutters in the same range which have the same price point. You can buy each in wholesale quantities of 10 but they can't be mixed together.
Q: When using crimp beads 1.5mm x 2mm what size of crimp cover should I buy?
A: All of our crimp covers will cover the crimps that we stock, so it's up to you as to how you want the finished product to look.
Q: When will you have the jet coloured pearls used in the miracle chain necklace available?
A: All the beads used in the miracle chain necklace are in stock at the moment, you can find the jet and gunmetal pressed beads here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Pressed-round-8mm/bo161 and the pearl miracle beads here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/One-colour-miracle-8mm/bo243#item1034
Q: When will you have your 2010 classes available for booking? thanks ali
A: We should have the dates finalised in December.
Q: When you describe the sun bead as silver-plated do you mean plated with real silver?
A: No, in the case of our metallised plastic beads the plating isn't actual silver.
Q: when you say £3.50 for 10 items, does this mean £3.50 for 10 assembled chains? thanks.
A: Yes, you get 10 assembled chains in a wholesale bag.
Q: When you say 4 strands, do you mean 4 times coiled? Can you clarify, and would this be the best product for bracelets with four winds of beads? - or would the heavier quality be better please.
A: Yes, you're quite right they aren't 4 strands at all but one strand of wire that coils around 4 times on itself. The heavier weight wire only really makes a difference if you are using heavy glass beads, for anything else it's not really necessary, just personal preference.
Q: Where are you measuring the 13mm from - is it the bar or the radius of the ring?
A: 13mm is the diameter of the ring (the external, not internal diameter) and the bar is 18mm long.
Q: Where does the hole run through on these beads, corner to corner, or middle - side to side?
A: Through the middle, side to side.
Q: Where is the hole - does it go through the bead or is it on the top like a pendant?
A: The hole is slightly to the top off-centre, it goes across and out the side of two of the petals.
Q: Which beads do you recommend using as I guess you cannot remove the ends? Thankyou.
A: You'd need beads with large holes, like our Pandora style beads which can be seen here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/search.php?searchfor=pandora, or you could attach pendants or beads using jump rings or eyepins.
Q: Which bracelet do I use to put these on?
A: You can make your own using loose chain, or try our wire band bangle at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Wire-band/bo1847
Q: Which dimension is 14mm?
A: The clasps are 14mm long (not including the ring on the end) and 5mm wide.
Q: Which part Measures 17mm, the toggle or the ring?
A: The ring measures 17mm in diameter and the bar is 25mm long.
Q: Which tiger tail is best for keeping shape?
A: None of the tigertail will keep its shape, it will drape and hang around your neck (or wrist, or ankle), it shouldn't kink. If you want something that will hold the shape you bend it into then you would have to use memory wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/memory-wire/c65
Q: Which trees are these beads made from?
A: They are made of European Maple and Beech wood.
Q: Which type of Soft Flex wire is suitable for knotting while still strong enough to hold glass bead (32"-40") necklaces
A: Even the finest Soft Flex that we stock is made up of 21 strands, so they are all extremely strong. All thicknesses can be knotted and the manufacturers suggest that using an 8-knot is the most secure and practical way of tying it, instructions can be found on their website here - www.softflexcompany.com/WSWrapper.jsp?mypage=Tips_Finish_Knots.html
Q: Which wire is best for hanging heavy pendants on which will keep shape but have a bit of flexibility?
A: The thicker the wire the better it will hold its shape. The 1.2mm and 1.5mm wire needs to be bent with pliers and should hold its shape come what may, it's quite sculptural. The thinner wires are best for wrapping and coiling as in this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/amber-ramble-necklace-and-bracelet/50 . The problem with the silver plated wire is that because it is best used for a sculptural creation even the 0.8mm and the 1mm will kink and lose its shape over time. What I'd recommend for a heavy pendant would be beading wire www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/beading-wire/c70 used with crimps www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: Which wire is best for making jump rings please?
A: I'd recommend 1mm silver plated wire, or perhaps 0.8mm for smaller diameter rings. You want something fairly thick to ensure that it holds its shape.
Q: which wire is best to use making earring hooks.
A: The 0.8mm would probably be the best size, as it's flexible enough to shape easily but still holds its form fairly well.
Q: Which wire is the best for making earring wires?
Thanks
A: I think 0.6mm wire would be best.
Q: While we are at the class can we make however many accessories as we wish or do you only make one thing per class?
A: There are pictures and descriptions of each class if you click on 'view full range' for most classes you will be able to make more than one item.
Q: who is the manufacturer of your seed beads& ie Miyuki,Matsuno, Toho!
A: Our Japanese rocailles and bugles are from Matsuno.
Q: Why are so many of the things antique black not gold or silver?
A: We regularly update the contents of our beginners' pack to reflect changing fashions, our design department reckon that black antique is the most on trend at the moment! The pack also includes a few suggestions for jewellery designs that can be made with the contents.
Q: Why are your 6mm metallic coil beads no longer available to buy by one pack but is available to buy in packs of ten.
A: I'm afraid we've discontinued the 6mm coils from our regular range but they're still available to buy packeted for re-sale through our retailers' collection.
Q: Why do you have a smaller range of colours in the next size up? Some projects I would like to do use one colour in both 4mm and 6mm but I am limited by your range. Thanks.
A: The Swarovski beads are a brand new range for us and we were limited in the colours we could originally get hold of, hopefully as time goes on and the beads prove to be popular we can increase our colour range. In the meantime you may be able to find a supplier on our links page at - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links.php
Q: Will a multi-mix contain a set number in every colour available, or a random mix?
A: It's a random mix of all the colours available at the time, we try to rotate the colours so that you get an even mix of them all.
Q: Will the hole in the centre take a 1mm wire? If not what 10mm bead will?
A: I've just tried a few of our current batch and it does just fit, these beads are handmade though so can vary slightly.
Q: Will the silver metallic 1mm elastic (EL31) fit through the hole of the 6mm crackle bead (GLRH)?
A: The holes in these beads are roughly 0.8mm wide so the silver metallic elastic won't fit through them. If you're looking for a stretchy thread for them you could use the thick elasticity (EYK) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Elasticity-thick-25m/bo1632 I've tried it and it fits perfectly.
Q: Will these beads fit onto the silver elastic that you sell?
A: Yes, they just fit on all of our colours of elastic.
Q: Will these cut headpins? I need lots for classes but really need a cheaper alternative to wire cutters.
A: They're really good for chopping up threads, cotton or leather but they won't cut through wire. The cheapest cutters we have are our craft pliers (CPC) www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Craft-pliers/bo1055 you can buy 10 pairs for £20.
Q: Will these suit your 1mm leather thong? And can I buy a single pack?
A: Yes they will be fine with the 1mm leather, you might find it helpful to double over the leather in the crimp to make a snug fit before you squeeze the crimp tight. You can find our regular wholesale stock at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-crimp-round-small/bo802 where you can purchase the crimps singly in retail or in wholesale quantities.
Q: Will this be suitable for the 7-strand beadalon beading wire?
A: Yes, that would work just fine!
Q: will this go on a pandora chain
A: The approximate hole sizes are: 30J1 1.5mm 30J2 2mm 30J3 2.5mm
Q: Will this go through the seed beads, and the glass mixes? Is there anything this is not suitable for?
A: Yes, it's so thin that you can thread it through the smallest beads and also strong enough for big glass beads. I can't think of anything this wire wouldn't be suitable for when used together with crimp beads www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Crimp/bo789
Q: Will this product work with pony beads? I am doing a craft with a large number of children and need some resources that work well and are cost effective. Thanks, Julie
A: The coloured elastic is perfect for use with pony beads. It's very popular for children's craft projects as it's easy to knot and thread and there's no need for fiddly clasps and findings.
Q: Will you be getting the ceramic glazed flower donut in more autumn/winter colours?
A: We don't have any plans currently to expand the range of ceramic that we have, we do have a couple of extra finishes of the flowers, the burnt orange (CEAJ21) multi glazed flower looks a lot more Autumn like than pictured www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Ceramic-multi-glazed-flower/bo1957
Q: Will you be offering just the cream pearl mix again?
A: I'm afraid that the cream pearl mix was a special one-off item but we are just about to start a new range of glass pearls with sizes from 4mm to 16mm in various colours. Hopefully these will arrive in a month or so.
Q: Will you have flat leather cord?
A: I'm afraid we have no plans to add flat leather to our range at present, you may be able to find a supplier via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php
Q: With this product is there a velvet foam cushioning inside box? Also if there is what colour is it? Thank you product Ref:Gift box 40x40 60A01
A: There is indeed, the velvet is black.
Q: Wooden beads: are the holes large enough to thread on a leather throng?
A: These have 3mm holes so they will fit on any of our leather thongs: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Leather-thong/bo907
Q: Would 2mm cord fit through these beads?
A: I've tested it and a 2mm thick cord will fit nicely through MTET 1 and 2. However it's a bit of a squeeze through flowery MTET 3, although I did manage to just get it through if your thread is even very slightly thicker than mine it would be impossible.
Q: Would a piece of 1mm cord go through the hole on this bead easily?
A: The hole in this bead is just under 2mm wide, so 1mm cord should go through absolutely fine.
Q: Would I be able to thread these beads onto a 1mm cotton cord?
A: The holes in these beads are about 0.8mm wide, so I'm afraid you'd have to use a thinner cord.
Q: Would I be able to use any butterfly to go with silver plated stud and hook?
A: Most butterflies should fit through the posts on these. We have plain ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Scroll-back-SP-GP/bo784 or plastic ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Plastic-scroll-back/bo787 or large plastic ones at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Monster-scroll-back/bo786
Q: would it be possible to drill a larger hole approx 5mm without affecting the appearance of the bead
A: I would think so but can't guarantee success! The holes in our current batch are only around 2mm so it's quite a change. The aluminium is fairly soft so marks easily, a padded vice and a pillar drill would probably be the best bet.
Q: Would it be possible to thread this on to one of your Kidney Wires or Long Ball Wire/Fish Hooks?
A: Yes, but since the hole runs through the middle of the bead you would need to put a headpin through the hole, trim it to a centimetre above the top of the bead and twist the end into a loop. Then you could attach this loop to a long ball wire or kidney wire. Take a look at this project www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/projects/pink-and-grey-vintage-earrings/69 to see headpins and earring findings used together.
Q: Would these crimp over a 0.7mm foxtail chain? Thank you.
A: I think that because the opening in these is only 0.5mm wide they'd be slightly too small to crimp onto a 0.7mm chain.
Q: Would these crimp over a 1.2mm snake chain? Thank you
A: The crimp end caps are very tiny and wouldn't fit over a 1.2mm snake chain, like crimps they're really more for use on thin beading wires.
Q: Would this be ok to bead glass pendants, i.e. the "glass flatties" or would you recommend the Beadalon 19 instead? Thanks for this service, it's amazing to ask questions like this!!! X
A: Beadalon 7 strand would be fine, I'd only recommend the 19 strand if you had a really long string of heavy metal beads.
Q: Would this be suitable for a child's necklace. Would it be easy to break?
A: Our cotton covered elastic would be more suitable for a child's necklace, it's more durable and comes in a range of fun colours - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Coloured-elastic/bo903
Q: Would this be suitable for binding the ends together of a three wire necklace. I just tried to make a necklace similar to that in one of the photos in your mini starter pack but I can't work out how to bind the wires together before fitting a clasp.
A: You could have a crimp on the end of each wire and then have a jump ring going through the ends of them but you wouldn't be able to get more than one strand of wire into these crimps. Similarly you could crimp three loops onto the same clasp or jump ring, unless you want to space them out in which case you could use a 3 strand box clasp at: www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/Box-clasp-3-strand/bo797
Q: would this box be ok for rings
A: Perfect, there's an inlay with a split to hold a ring in place.
Q: Would this box be suitable/ large enough for a wire necklace with a small pendant on it?
A: It depends how much your necklace will bend, you could probably coil it around in the box quite nicely but it's very hard to say without seeing the necklace. You could try marking out the dimensions on paper and testing it with your jewellery to give you a better idea of how it would fit.
Q: Would this wire be good for craft use and jump rings ?
A: It really depends what you mean by craft use! The plastic coated wire is similar to tiger tail and Beadalon, so it's good for threading crystals, pearls and heavy beads, making 'floating' jewellery, and for using with crimps. If you want to make your own jump rings, you need a sculpting wire rather than a beading wire, you could try our silver, gold, copper or brass plated or coloured wire here - www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/wire-metal-based/c71
Q: Would this wire be ok to use on the wyr knittr?
A: The Wyr Knittr website says it's ok to use wire between about 32 and 27 gauge. Our brass lacemakers wire should be suitable, 0.3mm is equivalent to 27 gauge and 0.2mm is about 31 gauge.
Q: Would you be able to get these mats in black?
A: I'm sorry they just come in various pastel shades, we can't specify with the supplier, I've never seen a black bead mat in any of the ones they've sent us.
Q: Would you recommend a double thickness of the thin elastic or single thickness of the thick?
A: It depends how heavy the beads are that you're using. I think a single thickness of the thick would be suitable for most jobs and perhaps stronger than double threading with the thin.
Q: would you use a 3mm crimp cover to use over a 2mm crimp ?
A: Yes, that should fit just fine!
Q: You used to do a 11mm cufflink pad, will you be getting these back in stock?
A: Yes, you're right, we have been getting a variety of different types of cufflinks from our supplier recently, we might not be able to get the 11mm ones again though, you may be able to find a stockist via our links page at www.beadsunlimited.co.uk/home/links-related.php

"Just wanted to let you know that my order just came and I wanted to say a big thank you!
I first ordered from you at Christmas and gave lots of people handmade jewellery for Christmas presents. The people who received them said I should start making things to sell, so the order I've just received will be used to make my first pieces for sale. I've wanted to do this for a long time but never had the confidence. Luckily, your prices are so excellent that I can afford to take the chance, and you have so many options! I will obviously be ordering from you again - even if this business venture doesn't take off, I'll still be coming back to you to buy things whenever I want to make jewellery for fun.
It's a beautiful day and I love the sun, but I'd much rather stay inside and sort out my beads and findings, make some jewellery and look through the catalogue than go and sunbathe!
Thank you! You deserve all the praise you can get, and other people deserve to know how good you are. I'll definitely be recommending you." - Beth from Redcar
