Mermaid Friendship bracelet - Free Instructions

This bracelet is lovely to make, the process of wrapping the thread up and over is very enjoyable and satisfying... Happy weaving!

Silky rat tail cord works so perfectly with this bracelet design (especially the rainbow!) but you could also use any other stringing of the same thickness.

Materials needed for each bracelet:

1 metre of 2mm rat tail - we used RT201-10
2 metre of 1mm rat tail - for the purple bracelet  RT113-20, for the lilac bracelet RT124-20, for the rainbow bracelet RT1MX-100

Tools required

a sharp pair of scissors SCIMX
a pin or safety pin (we used a brooch bar)
a cushion, or macramé board

Instructions

1. Cut a 1m length of 2mm rat tail and fold in half. Pin the loop to a cushion or macrame board ( photo 1 ) Secure the loose ends with a tight tension.
2. Cut a 2m length of 1mm rat tail. Lay roughly 5cm of working cord next to the lazy cords facing towards the loop (photo 2)
3. Wrap the longer end of the working cord around the lazy threads and the short working thread 3 times (photo 3)
4. Loosen the coils and pass the long length through the 3 loops and tighten. Move the wrapped knot up so that the loop is roughly 1cm long. Work through the loops tightening until you have a neat wrapped knot. Trim the short end ( photo 4 )
5. Pass the working thread over the left thread and under the right thread. Move the loop up and neaten ( photo 5 )
6. Pass the working thread over the right thread and under the left thread. Move the loop up and neaten. ( photo 6 )
7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 ( photo 7 ) until the bracelet is the required length.
8. Wrap the working thread around the lazy lengths 3 times ( photo 8 ) and tie an overhand knot securing the working thread in the knot ( photo 9 ) Trim your threads
