Free Instructions: Daisy Chain Necklace

Don't be daunted by bead weaving! Follow our free step by step illustrated instructions below and learn how to make a mini beaded daisy, keep making them, then string them toegther to make your own handmade daisy chain necklace. This is such a wearable summer design, and a evoke lovely nostalgic memories of making daisy chains when we were a child.

Materials Needed:

5g Size 8/0 Opaque White Preciosa seed Beads ( O802 )

5g Size 8/0 Opaque Yellow Preciosa Seed Beads ( O815 )

3g Size 11/0 Matte Metallic Silver Preciosa Seed Beads ( ME1131 )

3g Size 8/0 Matte Metallic Silver Preciosa Seed Beads ( ME831 )

2 x 5mm jump rings (JR5GP)

1 x Trigger Clasp ( EXCH4SP )

beading thread ( SLD02 or KO02 )

Tools Required:

Size 15 beading needle (ND15)

a sharp pair of scissors

2 x chain nosed pliers ( BEECN)

a beading mat ( BMT )

Instructions

Legend: A = Size 8/0 white seed bead, B= Size 8/0 yellow seed bead, C= Size 11/0 Matte silver seed bead, D = size 8/0 matte silver seed bead

1. Take a 30cm length of stretched beading thread, thread 4A (we used blue seed beads fro these photos, the white didn't show up on the white background!), 1B, move along so you have a 15cm tail (photo 1). We used black beading thread so the images are clearer for these instructions. But we used white beading thread to make our necklace.

2. Loop your needle around, and pass back through the first A you threaded in step 1 (photo 2)

3. Pick up 2As, loop your needle around and pass through the last A you picked up in step 1 (photo 3)

4. Pass back through the 1 B (photo 4)

5. Pass up through the A you passed through in step 2 (photo 4)

6. Adjust your threads so they are neat and evenly spaced as possible, but do not pull too tight. Pick up 1C, and pass through the next 1A (photo 6)

7. Repeat step 6 five times (photo 7) sew in and secure your thread

8. Repeat steps 1-7 sixteen more times for a 16 inch necklace. We used a bead mix, and chose a different colour seed bead for each daisy.

9. Take 1m of stretched beading thread, add a stop bead to the end, leaving a 15cm tail. Thread 5C, 1A, 5C, take one of your daisies, pass through 1C, 1A, 1C of the daisy (photo 8)

10. Repeat step 9 sixteen more times. We alternated between picking up 1 yellow, 1 white in the gaps in between the daisies.

11. Pick up 5c,1A,5C

12. Pick up 1D, pass back through the last C you threaded in the previous step (photo 9). Pull to a suitable tension, so there is no visible thread

12. Pass through the length of the necklace to strengthen.

13. Repeat step 11 at the other end of your necklace. Secure and weave in your threads.

14. Using chain nosed pliers, open up a jump ring use this to attach your trigger to the end 1D, close your jump ring. Repeat at the other end, with the extension chain (photo 10)

15. Trim the tails of your daisies (photo 11)

How to secure your thread

To secure your thread, pass the needle under a thread between beads and pull through until there is a small loop remaining. Pass over the original thread and through the loop and pull tight ensuring the knot forms between the beads. Pass through a few more beads and repeat. Pass through some more beads and trim the thread
