Free Instructions : Union Jack Bead Hanging

Make your own Union Jack bead hanging in Celebration of the Platinum Jubilee! Suitable for a beginner to bead weaving, follow our illustrated instructions to learn the technique of square stitch and start bead weaving this fun project! 

Materials Needed: 226 x Red Pony Beads (PLCG11), 152 x Blue Pony Beads (PLCG42), 270 x  White Pony Beads (PLCG02), 1 reel of S-Lon Cord (SLC02)

Tools Required: a beading mat (BMT2), a sharp pair of scissors (SCIMX)

 

Instructions

Legend: Red = A, Blue = B, White = C

 

 
  1. Take a comfortable working length of s-lon, pick up 2A, circle through the first A. (Picture 1)

 

2. Pick up 1C and 1A, pass back through the 2nd A from step 1, then through the 1st A and C from this step. (Picture 2)
3. Pick up 2C, pass back through the bottom bead and through the bead above and the new bead. (Picture 3)
4. Following the same path as in step 3, complete rows 1 and 2 of the chart, note top bead is row 1, bottom bead is row 2.
5. Pass through the last bead in row 2. Pick up 1C and pass through the 2 last beads in row 2. (Picture 4)
6. Pick up 1C and pass through the bottom bead in row 3 and through 3 top beads. (Picture 5)
7. Repeat the same thread paths and follow the chart to complete your union jack.
