Free Instructions: Wire Wrapped Rose Earrings

Learn how to make wire wrapped loops, and a chain maille roses in our dangly earrings instructions. Not forgetting the highlight... gorgeous crystal bicones! Use either Swarovski or Preciosa crystal to sparkle away...

Materials Needed: 2 ear wires ( LBWSP), 12 x 7mm silver plated jump rings ( JR7SP), 6 x eye pins (EPSP), 6 ball head pins (HPBSP), 2 x 4mm crystal bicones (either Swarovski bicones or Preciosa bicones), 10 x 5mm crystal bicones (either Swarovski bicones or Preciosa bicones)


Tools Needed: side cutters (BEESC), two pairs of chain nose pliers ( BEECN), round nosed pliers ( BEERN).

Instructions

  1. Take 3 of your 7mm jump rings. Using your chain nosed pliers, open up one jump ring (photo 1)

  2. Add one closed 7mm jump ring, close the open jump ring from step 1 (photo 2)

  3. Take your third jump ring, open it, and loop your other two jump ring onto it, making sure they are positioned together (photo 3)

  4. Close your third jump ring (photo 4)

  5. Position your jump rings the same as photo 5a to make sure your flower sits correctly (photo 5b)

  6. Repeat steps 1-5 again so you have two flowers. Set aside for now
  7. thread on a 5mm bicone bead onto a ball head pin. Take your round nosed pliers, position them so they sit right next to the top of your bead. Position your ball head pin about 4mm from the tip of the round nosed pliers. The space the pliers take up on the ball head pin, will be the area that has wire wrapped around it. .If you want a longer length of wire wrapping, move your ball head pin further away from the tip of the plier (photo 6)

  8. Take your chain nosed pliers, hold the end of your ball head pin with them, and bend the ball head pin over the round nosed pliers and away from you, until it reaches a right angle (photo 7)

  9. Reposition your round nosed pliers, so the bottom half of your pliers is positioned against the bend you created in step 2 (photo 8)

  10. Hold the end of your ball head pin with chain nosed pliers, wrap the ball head up and around the round nosed pliers towards you, until you have created nearly a whole loop (photo 9)

  11. Reposition your round nosed pliers so the the bottom half of your pliers are in the loop you created in step 10 (photo 10)

  12. Hold the end of your ball head pin with chain nosed pliers, and wrap the ball head pin down and around the bottom half of the round nosed pliers - away from you, to create a full loop. Continue until the straight part of the ball head pin is at a right angle from the length of the ball head pin that will be wire wrapped (photo 11)

  13. Remove your round nosed pliers, using chain nosed plier, open up your loop slightly, as you would a jump ring (photo 12)

  14. Take one of your chain maille flowers, put it so it sits in the top loop of the ball head pin, making sure it’s sitting correctly (like in step 5 - photo 5a &5b)) ( photo 13)

  15. Take one pair of chain nosed pliers to hold the loop, position the pliers so they are parallel to the straight part of the ball head pin, and your chain maille flower is tucked out of the way at the top of the loop (photo 14)

  16. Hold the end of the ball head pin with your other pair of chain nosed pliers, wrap your ball head pin over and around itself towards you (photo 15)

  17. Continue to wrap the wire around itself, working down towards to bead (photo 16)

  18. Using side cutters, trim off the excess wire, then use chain nosed pliers to press the end of the wire so it sits neatly (photo 17)

  19. Repeat steps 7-18 twice more, so you have three danglies on your flower (photo 18)

  20. Take an eye pin, thread one 4mm crystal bicone on it, trim, and turn a neat loop (photo 19)

  21. Repeat step 20 twice more, with 5mm bicones (photo 20)

  22. Take your 4mm bicone eye pin, using chain nosed pliers, open up one of the loops, attach to the loop of an ear wire, then close the loop (photo 21)

  23. Take your 5mm bicone eye pin, open up a loop, attach it to the other loop of the eye pin from step 22, and close the loop (photo 22)

  24. Open the other loop on your 5mm bicone eye pin from step 23, and loop on one of your roses, making sure they are sitting correctly ( see photo 5a &5b), close the eye pin loop (photo 23)

  25. Take your last 5mm bicone eye pin, open up one loop, and loop it onto your rose from step 24, close the eye pin loop (photo 24)

  26. Open the other loop on your 5mm bicone eye pin from step 25, and loop on to it your rose, with the three dangly bicones. Close the eye pin loop (photo 25)

  27. Repeat all the steps again to create your matching earring!
